as the economy becomes more complex, contributions to GDP are more and more dominated by the right tail, which is mainly male due to men because men have a higher variance

this is running off of the studies that produced the first attached image. The problem is that these studies all sampled children aged 8-13, where most women had several years of puberty, while only some males had begun puberty. This explains why the results have a higher variance for men, and why women appear to have a higher IQ than is generally observed in reality.

The real distribution is closer to pic 2, with women following a similar curve but falling off the right tail more readily compared to men.

I am SO glad I didn't go into tech

it was pushed so hard on me as a kid when everyone saw that as the future but I saw everyone 4-5 years older than me getting degrees in the field and realized it would be oversaturated by the time I got out there.

@john_rando @PraxisOfEvil Yeah, I've advocated this mindset for a while. Everyone translates "trades" to plumbers and electricians, but they don't consider elevator repairmen, building safety inspectors, solar installation technicians, crop dusters, locksmiths, and even dentists could maybe fall under this umbrella.

Others also don't realize that certain careers build multiple trades that translate into other jobs. Air mechanics have to learn electricity, hydraulics/pneumatics and some HVAC which can take you anywhere from automotives to construction to roller coaster repairman.

It's a big world, and paychecks doesn't just come from a singular company. Salary also isn't determined by prestige, but rather supply/demand, and the goal is to find the perfect amount of demand with as little supply.
