anyone watching media/ social media in october 2018 in the usa could see the regular drumbeat of hysteria about invading "caravans", especially as broadcast by trump

and then in in november 2018: *poof*, the entire problem magically disappeared post elections

i wish GOP allegiants could admit to themselves how easily they are manipulated. problem is enough of them are in on it: they know it's all a lie, they don't care, and they play along. they're happy about the manipulation. this is the modern GOP

    finally, remember also "jade helm"

an idiotic alex jones conspiracy theory, and abbott played into it for political reasons, having the texas state guard "monitor" what was a regular military exercise (rick perry even came out to say it was a regular exercise)

i sense abbot is doing the same here: playing at the game of manufactured outrage for dim wits, and already aware he will back down if any real consequences present themselves

@Brendanjones it's still worth it for niche use cases

they want to have bases on the moon- what would it take to turn lunar soil into cement? can't put a natural gas powered kiln on the moon, but you can get electricity from the sun. might be a nice funding angle to master the technology, then bring it back to earth

"And third, the technology Sublime uses to drive its chemical process — a device called an electrolyzer — has become much cheaper. Though electrolyzers have been around for a long time, they’ve recently benefited from increased economies of scale as interest in using them for applications like clean hydrogen production has grown."

sounds like it's driven by electricity, so the issue would be cost. there's a lot of grinding and heating in cement production. it's easy and cheap to throw fossil fuels at that. i hope they're able to get their process near enough to be economically competitive

    funny thing about ivermectin:

if you're in a poor country, and you have a high parasite load, when you take ivermectin you have improvement with COVID

simply put, ivermectin kills the parasites, and with less parasite load the body has more resources to fight COVID

this led to reports that ivermectin is effective against COVID *in poor countries in patients with high parasite load*

    only under these specific conditions

but it's not as if science illiterate MAGA types understand that

anyway, this is how the whole ivermectin myth started

    @argumento @NoFlexZone yes, biden sucks

so let's dwell on how much biden sucks

and not vote, or vote third party

and then get a GOP candidate elected

and what will they do on your stated concern?

@argumento @NoFlexZone you are saying that having terrible choices for candidates is a form of coercion

as long as democracy existed, democraocy today, and democracy forever more, the candidates before you will stink in various ways. apparently, for it not be coercion, to you, we must have a candidate who is godlike

    interesting take my friend

@thiswomanswerk voting is not about how things are, it's about how they should be

if you don't vote, you've accepted the unacceptable. cynicism is self-fulfilling prophecy. those who oppress you take delight in your words

everything i just said? it has absolutely nothing to do with race

"it has everything to do with race!": yes, all of the sh** we are in *now* is about race

and how do you get out of it?:

voting is not about how things are, it's about how they should be

    i disagree

so i engaged you are on your argument

i engaged only on those terms

everything else you write is nothing but mystifying

i think of you is my equal, my fellow citizen

"There is nothing you can say to me that I can take seriously. Take your ass on somewhere."

think any way you like about anything you like in this world. that is your right. but if you *put it out there* then i have the equal right to engage you *on the terms of your argument*. i don't have the right to insult you. which i never did

they did not buy twitter to destroy it

look at trump's rise on twitter: they want to turn a tool that sparked the arab spring into a tool to kill western democracy

and its current status indicates they are successfully doing that

so it's our job to abandon twitter

twitter won't die financially. authoritarian countries will prop it up forever. until twitter ceases to be a valuable commodity for their troll farm efforts. and that depends upon us leaving it

discovery is a vector for harassment

this is a valid concern but of course you enunciate the other valid concern: sharing is the whole point of social media

we don't have to say "grow a thick skin and use to learn the block button" (which doesn't even work for committed harassers and brigading) we just have to make discoverability opt in, and I think mastodon is doing that now with search indexing

PeerTube just has to do that too (unless I misunderstood the exact technical impediment here)
