TRUE STORY: One of my interpreter friends tried to name her interpreting business Hand Jobs, but her accountant said he’d drop her if she did.

Some of the comments I saw on blewski about the journalists left unprotected after turnip cowardly slunk off AF1 remind me I’m glad to not be on blewski (saw a bridged post).

The sun is rising, the birds are singing, and the Mastodon techies are talking about compute shit I can’t understand.

All is as it should be.

Today’s quick court assignment was a great counterpoint to yesterday’s slog. In and out of the courthouse in under half an hour, easy, simple plea, boom, done. I even had time for a haircut before coming home. It *did* mean driving to the other side of the state, but such is the life of the interpreter.

More progress. Bag 3 complete.

Bag 4 complete. Stopping for the night so I can work tomorrow in a non zombie-like state.

Edit: this means I won’t work on it again until Monday, as I’m heading home tomorrow evening after I’m done with camp for the week. I’ll get back at it and will post more when I can.

A great thing to do for alt text is to simply describe what’s in the image. It doesn’t have to be Pulitzer Prize winning prose. Something as simple as “a cute black kitten sitting in a tiny bandage box,” or “a middle-aged man with graying brown hair looks directly into the camera as someone pours beer over his head.”

What isn’t as helpful is when one simply repeats the text of the toot to which the image is attached (unless the toot itself is descriptive text) or oversimplified descriptions like “a cat” or “a man and beer.” Or when someone posts a comic in which two cute foxes have dialog about sadness and hope, but then for alt text writes something like “a comic about a fox being sad” without describing the foxes and their actions or repeating the dialogue.

Descriptive alt text is awesome because it lets everyone in on the joke or the beauty or the silliness or the cuteness. Access is sexy, friends.
