Note, that #Jabber has message replies and message reactions since some time now. Replies are implemented at least in #Dino, #Gajim, #Kaidan, and #Prose. Reactions are implemented at least in #Conversations, Dino, Gajim, Kaidan, #Movim, and Prose. Probably more.

TTBOMK, the #XMPP protocol itself has threads since ages, but I'm not aware of any implementation in a client. @prose is working on it, so I heard.

Personally, I try to resist all centralized applications as good as possible. That's why I'm on the #fediverse, and that's why I don't use Signal.

I did donate (a little bit) to various #Jabber related projects, though.

Yes. Also, I don't see a disadvantage in having different options, as long as they all use the same interoperable standard, #XMPP.

Having more than one #Quicksy style server is not bad, otherwise it's centralization and therefore #SPoF.

I use #sms4you for SMS, which is both a gateway to #email and to #XMPP.

However, both developers (I'm one of them) use only the latter and might remove the former at some point in the (far?) future.

Also, we are not using twillo. Instead users need a (USB) modem (abandoned UMTS dongles are cheap!) to plug in on a Raspberry Pi or similar.

All three are #Jabber clients, but you can use one of the numerous #biboumi #XMPP-IRC gateways with any of them. Works great for me!

As a #pass user, I don't know much about #KeePassXC, but from reading all the comments, I see some people in favour of @julianks decision, including a former upstream developer. It makes some sense to reduce the attack surface of a #passwordManager. IMHO etc.
