It's a content warning, basically adding a thing people have to click to view the contents of the post, usually used for potentially triggering or upsetting stuff

Cause I mean there's a big likelihood that someone who sees this post is just gonna have their day ruined by it and/or be in a state of mind that would kinda make them break down about it

There's a button under the post contents when you're posting something that turns it on and basically adds a subject line to the toot

...I just saw someone claim that "Linux isn't suitable for developers" because it doesn't have "functional sound" or... paste!?

I've heard the "no functional sound" one before, even ran into it pre-2018-ish

But this is the first time I'm hearing about "no paste" 💀

@siege makes sense and I guess does explain why some trans people like them but I just feel bad when I think about them, guess it's also a reminder of how privileged I am compared to others (including (especially?) other trans people) while still being unable to really do anything to help others so I just end up avoiding thinking about it if I can help it >.>

@siege oh that's not really it, I think a big part of it was how when I was in like 2nd or 3rd grade my English teacher started talking about how clowns are tragic people who are ostracized from society and forced to perform this character who has to be silly all the time and that just stuck with me and makes me uncomfortable every time I see a clown 💀

I don't even know if it's true but the idea of it just makes me sad and angry and I don't like thinking about it

The law apparently got repealed in 2020 but from what I've heard they'll just make some shit up to take you to the station anyway

Doesn't compression always slow things down because the CPU has to then decompress the data!?!?

@CAETFOOD I really wish I knew how to be able to do that, I really don't know how to get the "perfection or nothing" mindset out of my head cause it's making it really hard to just, do stuff in general

@ghost_bird yeah but they're telling me that somehow the decompression on the CPU would be faster than reading the uncompressed file and that goes against everything I know on the topic and sounds so wrong to me that it's genuinely making me uncomfortable

...huh I think the weird slowdowns and freezes I get is cause I have 16GB of RAM and the swap partition is on an HDD (didn't want to place too much stress on the new and expensive SSD I got 😭)
