@ATLeagle @urbanfoxe @billyjoebowers @FoxeinSocks I drive a Ford Ranger from 2003, and it's great. Parts are cheap and plentiful. It's easy to work on, but has modern "think about it 4 times a year" reliability. I've swapped the factory stereo and have wireless CarPlay and a back up camera, and it wasn't even hard.

I am not optimistic about in 2045 being able to swap whatever the state of the art of infotainment interfaces is into the cars that are being sold now.

@urbanfoxe @billyjoebowers @FoxeinSocks personally I like lower end cars from like the aughts. They’re new enough to have modernish safety, which I value a lot. Also vital electronics are both confined to operational roles (no integrated infotainment that can brick the whole car), and mature designs that will last.

Basically I want “just works” and ease of servicing, but also fuel injection so the thing can be remotely efficient and not make me dick around with a carburetor.

@inthehands Didn't like the Heritage Foundation or somebody *publish* a *plan* for how they will legally challenge a potential replacement's position on the ballot in basically every state?

It's absolutely fuckin' WILD that the Democrats calling for Biden to resign don't seem to even have a wisp of a plan to deal with *that* election-losing obstacle ahead of them that has a goddamn sign and spotlight pointing it out.

@inthehands I would clarify that 2 is two-part, and the answers are "highly unlikely" and "absolutely not"

I think some hypothetical replacement would miss the deadline to even be on the ballot in some states, which is ... not exactly a recipe for electoral success.

@grimalkina @inthehands What boggled my mind about the "you idiots who aren't medical professionals couldn't possibly put a mask on right" is that even for the goobers who can't put a mask on right, it's *still* better than no mask at all.

@fj @ajkandy @mekkaokereke @johnshirley2024 @carnage4life Yeah, I've been saying for years that Toyota specifically is going to drink Tesla's milkshake eventually. They fart Tesla's entire R&D budget, plus they have the advantage of already knowing how to make cars that are ... like watertight and stuff.

If they return to Scion form but electric Tesla's fucked.

I mean how many people just got 3s because they were the cheapest EV with name recognition and they wanted the "an car" EV?

@fj @ajkandy @mekkaokereke @johnshirley2024 @carnage4life I also think Honda's one to watch. Like Toyota they're *already* operating at the scale Tesla fanboys fever dream of. They also have something interesting going on with their hybrids right now, where they're basically already just generator-driven EVs until highway speeds.

The hybrid Accord is already *this close* to being an EV. An EV that would do *numbers* if they sold it cheap.

@stevewashington @StillIRise1963 Exactly. It could and should be expensive to own an assault rifle at 20 for the exact same reason and via the exact same mechanism it was prohibitively expensive for me to buy a MazdaSpeed 3 at 20. The insurance companies looked at a 20-year-old man and a sports car and and were like "nope," and just quoted me like $8,000/year.

@thomasfuchs @mralancooper @nova I'm also very happy here on hachyderm. Seems to be really well run, and is a very like-minded community -- for me at least.

@nova Today the news I'd learned about so far from my #Mastodon feed was:

    - Brittney Griner
    - Apple encryption
    - Raspberry Pi going milkshake duck
