   I know #Mastodon gets a lot of crap for "not being able to discover news and new content".

   This morning is here what I found by leveraging the following hashtags and the "News" section of the mobile app:

   - Linux magazine tips/tricks
   - Kubernetes blogs
   - NASA finds ice on Pluto
   - Brittney Griner case
   - Summer photographs of the Ouray ice park
   - Apple announces end to end encryption
   - 2 Million year old ecosystem discovered in Greenland
   - TIME magazine Iran Women of the year

     @nova the right side of the Mastodon iOS app has a tab called “Posts”. I’m not sure what feeds that and I haven’t figured out how to find it on any other client, but I spent over an hour yesterday scrolling it and discovering all kinds of interesting stuff.

     @nova Actually I think that Mastodon is great at discovering new content (not sure about news).

     These past weeks I discovered lots of new things at a faster pace than before, partly because people behave in a different way than on Twitter & other sites.

     People might be conflating "finding stuff that they're searching for" with "discovering".

     @nova Social media for me is navigating your contact graph from friends and colleagues into new spaces of particular topical or cultural interest and exploring them.

     The Twitter to Fediverse export gave me a grand jumpstart to this process with many familiar folks already present.
