@mekkaokereke if we focus on cost, then shared moderation and shared storage. Those 2 things build on our FASP idea that we are currently actively working on.
I see a lot of people pointing technical things like switching from Rails or some other brick, but those are really not the issues. At least from my experience running instances with many hundred thousand users.

@samir @mekkaokereke we are doing this under a grant from @ngisearch and the agreed plan is to have it done by next June. The spec work is mostly done (unfortunately we did not get much feedback) and we hope to have a first implementation for trends (our first capability) in 2 months, both the « provider » side and the Mastodon implementation

Mais au final, j'ai l'impression que tu ne pourras jamais te payer, sauf changement de la grille tarifaire côté SNCF, ou faire des centaines de milliers de billets par an (ou vendre autre chose que des billets de train) ? Si même Trainline est déficitaire en france…

@malwaretech their issues are legal, not technical. They hinted at it many times. This is also why they have not launched federation in the EU, they are very scared of another billion fine by regulators, so they ask for every little step to be explicitely approved before launching

Il a été décidé d'activer manuellement (via la console) la feature sur mastodon.social car c'est la bonne période de l'année. Elle est clairement pas finie, il manque des choses, c'est pas dans une release… mais la décision a été prise qu'il était plus important de l'activer maintenant en l'état que de ne rien faire et attendre décembre 2025.

We are (slowly) moving in this direction with our work on « Fediverse Auxiliary Service Providers » for fediscovery.org, it opens the door to moderation providers.

@jwildeboer @dave What you describe is what we want to build, and what has the issue I outlined above.
Claire, the GlitchSOC maintainer, is part of the Mastodon team, and she herself says that we should not re-use what Glitch does because it has issues.

@jwildeboer This is on the roadmap, but it requires a complete replacement of the status parser, which is a complex endeavour with security & performance impacts. @dave started experimenting on the topic but we did not find a good way yet.
