   @malwaretech their issues are legal, not technical. They hinted at it many times. This is also why they have not launched federation in the EU, they are very scared of another billion fine by regulators, so they ask for every little step to be explicitely approved before launching

     None of this feels like the result of any technical limitations. I'm pretty sure they're just trying to maximize their engagement metrics at the expense of Mastodon. IMO Threads should be defederate until they "figure out" how to implement actual federation.
