I am in quarantine with COVID...
and a chicken.

I finished the 5-day course of Paxlovid yesterday,5 more days at least til ok.

It was to be a family get-together for the holiday - first in 4 years.

I got COVID enroute Tucson from Chicago.

I spent 5 days alone in my dtr;s VRBO house; others rented another when they got here.
Now I'm in a secluded wing of my dtr's house. Family in VRBO next door.

Happy to chat. about anything.

Chicken just keeps repeating herself.

Four years
Almost 4 years i've been a hermit.
Finally decided to roll the dice
Wore n95 for 15 hours. Limo, airport, flight to Vegas. Airport, flight to Tucson daughters car.

Beyuch next to me on on last flite had covid.no mask
Now i do
Fuck people all to hell.

I had an assignment as a young engineer to test transporting them on railcars. Told them it would not work but the company had a friend in high places in my company.. Built a frame with outriggers to put on container cars. Loaded up one of their modules - a 10 by 40 ft quarter of a house-to-be. Did our standard impact test - let the car roll down a grade and hit a parked car loaded with gravel and brakes locked. Result? see next:

Lord knows it was not good for a whole lot of marginalized people. But there still was a middle class for us straight privileged whites. We bought a house in 1973. Paid for it on my salary as my wife has never worked ouside the home since i graduated from college in 1970 with no student loan debt.

By curate I mean:
Mute the toxic posters.
Or put them in a list and mark it to keep members out of your feed. Then when you feel like it, browse that list. If you find one that is not so bad after all, remove from list. Or put in another list of " not so bads". That is better than blocking or muting, because it is readily undone by you if you choose.
Another approach is make a few categorize lists of ones you really like. Then spend most of your time reading there.

A sort-of related question:
Is there somewhere a curated list of highly-used hashtags? All i know to do is put a "#" and start typing and see what turns up below. It is like fly fishing. If i get a nibble of a related tag with high usage this week i figure that is a good one to use. But I don't recall them and do the same every time, spending administrative effort when I just want to express a thought more than just my dog will see.

Growing up I was identified as having "anger management issues." Have always felt flawed. "Just learn to grin&bear it."

I never explained, because noone ever asked, that it was like a pot boiling over. I could tolerate something for a long time, but eventually something just snapped. As an adult I had 3 incidents at work that i recall with embarrassment but know damned well my blowup was beyond my control.

I rarely read more than a few paragraphs of articles like this. Then I skip through looking at the paragraph heaings and skimming a few sentences.

I read this one word-for-word. It should be required reading both for military senior officers and for Congresspeople. The bad decisions made for the wrong reasons because of people's bias based on ignorance and career ambition eclipse the decision to launch Challenger.

Racist yes, but more to the point, it is a law based on mystical, fever dream religious beliefs. All the christofascist support for Israel is NOT sympathy for Israel, it is purely to fulfill the "rapture" nonsense in the last book of the bible, written no doubt by someone with an opium pipe.
It's also why they don't care about climate change or pandemic or pretty much anything. Their single purpose is to make the rapture happen & leave.

Thank you for all these articles. You challenge "conventional wisdom" and bring receipts. I wish more of the people who need it would read and take a few minutes for introspection.

I truly wish it would be possible to find the gene so many of my fellow white folks have that makes us such a-holes. I really thought back in the '70s as we came out of the "civil rights era" that the racist dinosaurs would die off and it was "The Dawning of the Age of Aquarius."
