Woaaaah....what you've sketched out in your thread doesn't track with what I lived through in those eras. But before I say more I'd like to read the articles.
No mention of Clinton policies should go without mention of the Gingrich Revolution arm-twisting that also occurred. Blaming one guy for what gangs of other people were doing don't cut any mustard with me.
@WackyIdeas@AndySocial World Cup has a growing audience in the US but it ain't THAT big. And in the US you have to define "football"--the NFL doesn't do World Cup.
You can load anything with butter and salt to make it tasted, well, buttery/salty, so add a pinch of brown sugar and it'll taste barbequed. Fat-salt-sweet is the palate's trigger. QT: https://noauthority.social/@CapitalB/112204006392245874
@freemo On the bright side, that's the best defense I've heard so far for bloatware. That kid sounds like he's all for getting the newest computer when the one he uses slows down to a crawl, very much like the millionaire who buys a new car when the ash trays get full....back when cars had ashtrays.
@freemo@lovelylovely@dbc3 Well, the "pre-built home" phase began immediately after WWII but wasn't prevalent 50 years ago, I'm afraid.
But it did ramp back up again with housing developers' "community" house building which morphed into "home owners association" neighborhoods, gated communities and the like. Turns out that the original concept of "ticky-tacky" was good for commercial home builders.
@lovelylovely If any of LA Times' writers are younger than 70 years old, no wonder they find it a mystery. They likely flipped off Boomers instead of paying attention.
@lovelylovely@dbc3 Of course, but in terms of buying a middle class house, I'm sorry to report that "red-lining" remains alive and well today and in some areas on stearoids.
@freemo ...with the possible exception of things with wheels and other moving parts, especially when the manufacturer stops making parts for 'em and NAPA doesn't carry them either. 😆
@parker Yeah, the so-called Christian Conservative isn't the least bit Christian. Thanks for confirming that they're more into organized crime than society.
