As I’m moving into more plus size clothing, I’m finding for myself what I’d heard second hand: A lot of plus size clothing is absolute shit quality. Thin, pills easily, etc.

Any inclusive brands y’all love that feel like they’ll last more than ten washes? (I’m on the edge in sizes so something that covers both plus and non-plus would be best.)

How is Universal Standard, does anyone know?

(ETA for my crafty crew here: I’m probably not going to make my own, as cool as that is. :-)

@sinituulia @valhalla My downstairs where I do daily work has a level of lights obtained from searching for high-lumen lightbulbs that my boyfriend @Wham says is like the surface of the sun. I love it SO much and credit some of my tolerance of the extreme dark here to that. LED light strips and industrial fluorescents seem like they might have some of the same “surface of the sun” effects… ;)

@sinituulia ZOMG I have that same complaint about lights that are pretty and effective and not super expensive. My living room is way too dark to do much of any crafting in these days with us being in The Dark Period. :-(

As a reminder for folks here talking about Trump, Musk, or other MAGA folk: Please don't use cute nicknames ("musky", "space karen", "cheeto", Drumpf, T***p, etc). There aren't algorithms to manipulate, and all the use of nicknames does is bypass individual people's filters who are trying to manage their own experience.

And speaking of, amusingly, my own filters are going to make this post invisible to me.

Capitol Hill residents and business owners reported that police just stopped responding to calls, even blocks away from the protests, saying it was “too dangerous”. 🙄 Firefighters still went in as long as firearms weren’t involved, partially because the Fire Chief in that area clearly didn’t agree with the police.

And in Washington, we all - without doing a thing - get ballots mailed to us. Every election. With a guide. And it’s free to mail back. Boggles my mind that this isn’t everywhere in the US. I get to vote over my morning coffee (or several mornings!) while arguing positions with a partner, and it’s fantastic.

Medical people are always taking my blood pressure and being like, “Wow, go you, it’s so low.” As if it’s a moral credit to me that the numbers are what they are.

Every time I sigh a bit - BP isn’t a moral stance, y’all - and say, “Yea, my migraine medication (propanolol) lowers BP.”

It’s a weird thing to be congratulatory about, is all I’m saying.

@mekkaokereke I used to follow Adam’s blog ~20 years ago and eventually got disgusted at his attitude towards women and stopped. Turns out that thing about racism, misogyny and other isms going together is true!

Also, he acts like 2k is this tiny amount as a “graduation gift” akin to a $100 stuck in a graduation card. (Likely also graduated with minimal or no loans). That would be worth about $9,060 today; not a princely sum but also not nothing.

Mild Gripe: When a newbie asks something, maybe don’t tell them to Google it? In the year of our lord 2023, most of us are probably aware of that tool. If we’re asking an “easily googleable” question, it’s likely because there’s something obvious to more experienced people that we just don’t know yet and maybe don’t even know we don’t know. That’s why we’re asking a person instead of a machine.

@mekkaokereke @being @iyalei “Everyone gets the same access to present to senior leadership. No one gets talked over.” When I was junior, I had a chance to present to a VP. Exciting! I was one of two women in the room! Partway through, a senior man cut me off and talked over me. The VP turned directly back to me and said three words that nearly made me cry in gratitude: “Were you done?” I was a fan of his ever after. It’s not hard to do, but people gotta NOTICE.
