PSA: The demonym for Burkina Faso is Burkinabè

Burkina Faso is a name made up in 1984 by our socialist, anti-imperialist, anti-colonial president Thomas Sankara. It joins the 2 biggest languages, Mòoré and Dioula, to mean Land of Honest/Upright People.

There is only 1 demonym, and that is burkinabè. Bè means child in Fulani, another major language. Child of the Land of Honest people.

Burkinese, burkinabese, or any other demonym is a colonial attempt to dilute our political history.

Its genuinely surprising to me that Dutch people don't seem to realize how close Dutch is to English. When I suggest this to a Dutch person, I am usually met with resistance? They say it is more like German, which I don't disagree with, but it's also very close to English obviously

Idk, I feel like French people are very aware that our language is close to Spanish or Italian. It's not an insult or anything! Language families are a thing

Hello. Today I would like to share one of my happiest purchases for my apartment. It's a toilet roll holder with a little storage box above, I put wet wipes and pads/tampons in there. It's great.

One day, bf shared with him that it feels really inconsiderate to him when I'm late to meet with him (eg he comes to pick me up at 6 and I'm ready at 6:08). It hit me bc he really meant it sincerely, so I made an effort.

But one day he got mad that I "was late for our appointment" to meet in the living room to go to the grocery store *on vacation* and I said no. At some point the Dutchness has to stop. This is where I draw the line 😂

Also: this is a bit of a shot in the dark, but my sister is looking for a job in Dubai or remote!

In October she adopted our 14-year-old niece, who lost both her parents (my cousin and her ex) 💔. My sister has owned a small food supply business for the last 5 years now, but now being a single mom, she's looking for a more stable and secure income.

She has a background in business and has worked in corporate and back-office for Chanel, LVMH and Cartier to name a few.

#COVID in the #Netherlands:
The government has decided to stop updating the risk level "thermometer" in summer'23, which you only know when clicking "find out more" (what the fuck) so it is still marked as low, but check out the wastewater analysis: 2 weeks ago, the number of COVID particles in wastewater was twice as high as it has *EVER* been! Like, ever! Even at the worst peaks!
And still no updates to the thermometer, no free test clinics, the vaccine only on referral... It's wild!

I think they're just a bit uncomfortable with us and they would rather think it's our fault

Yes! Especially considering that 90% of the time the advice is "assimilate into norms of masculinity" which assumes those norms are better when often they're really not.

e.g. I was given the feedback to "be more assertive" from men at work, even though I consistently got more buy in for my ideas than they did.
