No one told me for LASIK that while there isn’t pain (though “pressure” sometimes reads as pain to me)…when the lasers are going, you can literally smell your own eyeballs burning. Which… is disconcerting. And I could smell it for about a half hour after.
Plus side, my vision is rapidly defogging and sharpening as I heal. Eyes are itchy as fuck but I expected that.
Modern medicine is honestly amazing. I was unable to function uncorrected until this morning.
@skinnylatte I don’t generally think of Seattle as particularly ahead of anyone on permitting, wonder what’s different with SF?
Also, not sure what your transit situation is, but there are multiple really good food places around the Asian Family Mart in Bellevue. Mostly Chinese (I don’t know enough to know region sorry) and Taiwanese, I believe. The ID is great of course. But Bellevue I think also has had a lot of immigration too, particularly with MSFT close.
I’m zero percent sad at the explosion of #SuperbOwl across my timeline today. Owls are awesome! Here’s the amazing time I got to fly Dingle with @Wham, inside the barn they had built JUST FOR DINGLE to get exercise in. 😂🤣
@mekkaokereke has talked about how Black people have knowledge that white people don’t, often relevant to the coming #uspol years. I realized I was ignorant of Black activist writing from the 70s. I’d only read up through early civil rights.
Just finished “Assata”, by Assata Shakur and holy shit. There is SO much in there relevant to today’s world. And I’m sad to realize I’d never heard of her before. Highly recommend reading it if she’s new to you.
If I want to suggest that a nonprofit or company join the fediverse, is there an article somewhere that describes their options and tradeoffs **with this lens**?
I.e, whats the decision tree for when a company might want to start its own server versus who should just hop on mastodon.social? And if there are other servers to consider (I.e, for small art craft shops, I think there’s several pro-commercial servers I’ve seen). #askfedi
Finally cut this off the loom, I like it, but it was so uneven that it was getting impossible to weave near the back bar. I probably lost about 24” of usable warp, which is a bit sad, but lots of learnings here. I definitely tried too long a warp and my front bar is not evenly tied to the loom 😤
I did get a pre-wash, pre-hem 92” length. It’s in the wash right now and will see how it tightens up; I had a few diagonal fell spots that may be unusable. #weaving#rigidheddle
As I’m moving into more plus size clothing, I’m finding for myself what I’d heard second hand: A lot of plus size clothing is absolute shit quality. Thin, pills easily, etc.
Any inclusive brands y’all love that feel like they’ll last more than ten washes? (I’m on the edge in sizes so something that covers both plus and non-plus would be best.)
How is Universal Standard, does anyone know?
(ETA for my crafty crew here: I’m probably not going to make my own, as cool as that is. :-)
@sinituulia@valhalla My downstairs where I do daily work has a level of lights obtained from searching for high-lumen lightbulbs that my boyfriend @Wham says is like the surface of the sun. I love it SO much and credit some of my tolerance of the extreme dark here to that. LED light strips and industrial fluorescents seem like they might have some of the same “surface of the sun” effects… ;)
@sinituulia ZOMG I have that same complaint about lights that are pretty and effective and not super expensive. My living room is way too dark to do much of any crafting in these days with us being in The Dark Period. :-(
As a reminder for folks here talking about Trump, Musk, or other MAGA folk: Please don't use cute nicknames ("musky", "space karen", "cheeto", Drumpf, T***p, etc). There aren't algorithms to manipulate, and all the use of nicknames does is bypass individual people's filters who are trying to manage their own experience.
And speaking of, amusingly, my own filters are going to make this post invisible to me.
Hi friends—my therapy practice is open across Washington State for "weirdos and nerds" in the arts, LGBTQIA+, poly, pagan, or kinky communities. In-network with Premera and Lifewise.
Please share with friends who might be interested. They can reach me at jonobie@selfwitte.com or https://selfwittecounseling.com.
If I’m not the right fit, I'm happy to connect anyone with other WA therapists, many of whom have lots of openings. Supporting our community’s mental health is my passion, especially right now.
@portlandy@mekkaokereke Yup. I mean, as mentioned elsewhere in this thread -- why don’t we primarily celebrate Ida B Wells instead of Anthony as the quintessential suffragette and put her on coins and the like?
<scratches head> It’s a complete myster…. Oh wait. 😒🤨🤡
Zomg. Did you know that Inside Out II has the “guy with girlfriend looks at other girl” meme in the background of Joy’s speech at one point?? Look at the upper right screen in the background.
