I accidentally found that Let's Encrypt certificates for IP address are generally available: https://letsencrypt.org/2026/01/15/6day-and-ip-general-availability
Have anyone tried to use them?
I remember about these ideas to avoid centralized DNS and use kind of phonebook instead, like:
    1.2.3.4 latest news
    199.100.100.211 tasty meals
    12.13.14.15 Jane blog

Such idea described @aral in this https://ar.al/2025/06/25/web-numbers/ (Web Numbers) article and now seems to be more doable.

6-day and IP Address Certificates are Generally Available
Short-lived and IP address certificates are now generally available from Let’s Encrypt. These certificates are valid for 160 hours, just over six days. In order to get a short-lived certificate subscribers simply need to select the ‘shortlived’ certificate profile in their ACME client. Short-lived certificates improve security by requiring more frequent validation and reducing reliance on unreliable revocation mechanisms. If a certificate’s private key is exposed or compromised, revocation has historically been the way to mitigate damage prior to the certificate’s expiration. Unfortunately, revocation is an unreliable system so many relying parties continue to be vulnerable until the certificate expires, a period as long as 90 days. With short-lived certificates that vulnerability window is greatly reduced.

I am looking for some #localFirst solution for blog authoring what would publish (all or some) posts to an activityPub server like to a relay, with publishing of new versions of posts as updates.
And fetch new posts, comments, mentions, messages, and reactions arrive to my local-first thing as a Feed or an Inbox.
Sounds like I want "Fido with formatting and attachments" over #ActivityPub .
The #Fido part is avoid need to be "always online", but sync that few times per day when have time for it

@mcc Open-source software can cease to exist anytime too - due maintainers burnout under burden of unpaid work, for example. Or by sme other reasons. More chances if project managed by some group of people/organization as foundation with proper measures for longevity.

It seems I will have to move to different Fediverse software. This sounds too similar to statements of Russian MFA.

I certainly hope the EU can put the same sanctions on the US for attacking Venezuela as they did on Russia for attacking Ukraine. This is indefensible.

I seen a good explainer (can't recall where) that systems either created for public communication (such as social media & activity pub) or for private communication (such as e2ee messengers). And them both don't mix well.
So attempt to stretch e2ee over fediverse will end mass usage of technical and social crutches and band-aids.
That explainer proposed to use email for direct messages (with PGP?), OR giving links pointing to e2ee messengers

With this example of a criminal referencing an old #law when he see it as a beneficial thing, I have #question for @law community.
Is there a such code statute in US founding document for a criminal who undermines the pillars of Union (yeah, US a Union too), by following the orders of a hostile foreign country?

I just may be got confused, because each of these fediverse apps designed not as a "plugins" for some foundation like Kitten, such e. g. long-reads/blog authoring for it, or photo gallery feature for Kitten, which would share identity. So I want be kote@example.tld in all of these "plugins" and across Fediverse. These isolated apps at best would live at blog.example.tld, photos.example.tld, news.example.tld and im.example.tld domains set.

I thinking about one thing that #fediverse self-hosting landscape lacks. Well it is not only about Fediverse per se.
I dream to have something like a personal "trailer", or technically speaking, a server, on the internet, where I can add various capabilities if need them. For example:
    📜 microblogging like Mastodon.
    📖 Long-reads blogging like Medium
    🖼️ Photos and albums
    📷 Video upload
    at least one of these:
    📬 deltachat relay
    📪 Briar "mailbox".
    💬 Simplex relay

    Some more explanations follow.

Obvious outcome. Merkel blocked also Georgia bid for joining NATO, so precious time has been missed and ruzzian invasion happened in 2008. And lessons did not had been learned. Merkel and Orban must be interrogated under auth about their activity in favor of Kremlin.

    Here is info about Zot/6,
    https://opennomad.net/page/nomad/zot6
and it speaks about https all the time in context of location(s) bound to identity, and also in context of keys discovery and retrieval by keyId to verify the identity...

in context of p2p it would require full refactor of transport and keyId resolution/format spec for zot/6 too.

Meanwhile, the message format (serialization) for Zot/6 is ActivityStreams (JSON-LD) too, but this beyond the scope.

I find sad that even if I think about making outline for some service that able to federate with ActivityPub / Fediverse, it also means I have to think about something that can be deplatformed, outlawed or censored out in 2025.

But both ActivityPub (and even ATProto) is NOT designed to be functional in such conditions.

Attempt to support it makes immediately you dependent on pyramid of:
    💻 servers, likely cloud
    📜 DNS
    🔑 SSL certificate(s)
Each of above can become point of failure 🧵

@kravietz Yes, there is no protest potential there. But there is some kind of swamp where _anything_ sinks - any projects, ideas and activities. Even those started by kremlin. I am not talking about ideological stuff like "the undead polk" (бессмертный полк) but anything practical, that require from people _do_ something 😏 Most common sentiment is "any change is bad" and "please leave me alone".
I even asked Mistral to describe the typical ruzzian voter. It said partly same thing, but detailed.

Other thing I want to try is the Jami - https://jami.net but not sure when or with whom to communicate via it to test it in action.
Just don't have too much of contacts in general, and especially don't know anyone who already use it.

@CursedSilicon This happens this way, in my opinion, because the tools being told about, are designed for very specific workloads, that are:
⭐ so called "mission critical" (its downtime cost money)
☠️ readiness for massive requests spike, let it be fame, DDoS attack, or "Kiss of Fediverse" (see ⭐ )
If you need tools in different mindset, you probably need to see #SmallWeb tools like what this person does: @aral 🧵
