@HistoPol I have access only to open sources, so all evidence I have is of that kind "he is allowed to be a billionaire in putin's ruzzia". In Ukraine both SBU and activists investigated Telegram and collected various technical evidence. I seen here in the Fediverse links to related articles and blogs by activists.
    Example of related news: https://unn.ua/en/news/telegram-cooperates-with-roskomnadzor-and-the-fsb-and-stores-user-data-indefinitely-spravdi

@HistoPol I would add to "Telegram" details the aspect of being controlled by a Kremlin operative. It is something similar to CloudAct effect, but worse. This is why I do not trust to Telegram as product no matter what it declares about its data collection practices.

@skykiss Can we say "corporate media" or "billionaires pet media" instead of MSM?
    Example of reasoning:
For my personal bubble, Fediverse is my mainstream social media for two years already, but it does not mean it is bad.

@killyourfm Sadly, my experience with Bazitte was not so nice, but it just could not withstand badly-made Nvidia drivers. I had to switch to Ubuntu after it got "semi-non-bootable". But this is beauty of GNU/Linux - you have plenty of options to choose from at least to try something different if _that_ thing don't work for you.
Later I switched to the Nouveau and it works even better than with "official" NVidia drivers.
PS: I did not chose Nvidia specially, I just picked "VR-ready" PC at Amazon.

@aral Moreover, whole current internet architecture is based on pyramid. Servers on top, and you, "pity "internet user" (used this term to show how situation is bad), allowed only to consume data flowing on you from server.
Upload speed is less than any download speed.
Email send from "residential" IP address considered as spam by default, as I know.
Many ISP including my current, do not provide option of "white IP address" - public stable IP mapped to my hope PC-or router.

@aral Even if something "pods"-based, when you e. g. rent some VPS or something like Solid "pod", or some PDS as bluesky calls it, you still need it be hosted somewhere. At place that is not controlled by you. A place you have to pay for.
This makes such stuff already harder to adopt and _decentralize_.
Even if Places or other such project like this requires usage of the server-client model when you need some software running on your behalf on non-residential IP address.

After reading that old but still actual post of https://ar.al/2022/11/09/is-the-fediverse-about-to-get-fryed-or-why-every-toot-is-also-a-potential-denial-of-service-attack/ by @aral I tried to think a bit. May be I am not best at this, sorry if so.
that anything that is not a really decentralized thing, literally a peer-to-peer stuff such as Utopia, it will eventually will end up the same way as Fediverse which is merging into few large clamps over time, like mastodon[dot]social/online I am sitting on.

Is the fediverse about to get Fryed? (Or, “Why every toot is also a potential denial of service attack”)
Every time I post something that gets lots of engagement, I essentially end up carrying out a denial of service attack on myself. What does this say about the design of Mastodon and ActivityPub and the future of the fediverse?

@aral There are few projects who try to move to mesh and peer-to-peer architectures, such as #yggdrasil or #veilid but they don't have any mass adoption among people - either nobody knows about them, or it has a high entry barrier (need some knowledge) or it seems to lack of known apps to attract people (as veilid is too low-level.
Utopia is closed-source, so it can not be trusted. Part of people there too concentrated on crypto, some are even look sorta dangerous..

@aral As a conclusion, I would to say that even Small Web projects such as Places/domain/kitten not immune to get concentration/centralization disease, as it too require a paid resource at some servers.
Only peer-to-peer software that can work right from people computers can be immune enough from centralization.
And it also restrict what such software can really do and can be useful for.
And also sorry if my thread was sad or disturbing or non-interesting for you.

Is there a #Fediverse software that able to show #3D content? I talking about rendering STLs, with uploading previews together with #STL file. It can be done using raw #WebGL or Three.js as a way to render it.

@Radical_EgoCom I see a paradoxes here. First, it is impossible to provide luxury lifestyle for everyone (a-la billionaires). Imagine how 8 billion people would have a private jet each? it is even more gag than a fantasy.
And, second, so called "middle class" is just a good living conditions when every family have enough live space to provide a private room for every of their children, for example.
It all depends a lot on actual aspects of lifestyle provided via UBI. 🧵

@Radical_EgoCom If everyone can afford to eat meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, and all these necessary nutrients in balanced and tasty diet. Or have time for gym and other activities to stay healthy.
Single problem with all that is that myth the middle class have plenty of time to spend with hobbies, family and friends. They work, work and work.
Plus, there are people who have special desires or hobbies, that may require more space or time than "default settings". It all not so simple.

@joeo10 That is why I told _may be_ instead of _you should_. Still, hope, you would not object to rest of my comment.
I bet people will start to make some "viruses" for these "too smart" cars to prevent data sent outside car by spoofing server replies. But these cars likely will not be accepted at service centers, I guess.

@anildash Still, I would prefer it would be something like `potus@fediverse.gov` or potus@social.whitehouse.gov` instead. To further decouple it from corporate infrastructure.

@aral Yeah I remember that they got venture capital funding, without specific details, though.
From perspective of people concerned about their data, I find the Kitten apps and Domain infrastructure project close to that goal.
Sadly, big corps and govts may find Solid as something more "formalized" and therefore "more understandable" for them.

@BBC This article at BBC about #Solid looks like some business-to-business promotion material stuffed with some "success stories".
Still, this is not so clear, whether it is possible to bootstrap own Solid pod on device or hosting I would control or trust.
#SmallWeb from this perspective sounds as something better.
What you would say about that, @aral ?

@jeffowski I think it is time to restructure a bit Western political spectrum and stop to call as far left those who follow the Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Trotsky and alikes, and call them the far-far-f**ng-far-rrrrright, much more far right than MAGA.
This will leave only #anarchists at far-left part of spectrum, and will allow to show spectrum as gradual increase of State pressure on an individual, from far-left (anarchism) at 0 pressure, to max pressure at the most far-right part of spectrum.
