Black people shouldn't have to engage. You can't advocate for your humanity on the premise you don't have it.

@Mastodon I hope that the those tools have robust personal controls so that people can protect themselves, their privacy and customize their experience.

Mastodon's chief strength for quality of life is the battery of mute, blocking and follower controls.

@mekkaokereke @evan @joelving I'd like to see moderation being more coordinated like this. My experience moderating is on a very large subreddit, and action tends to be very visible (consultation with the team for more complex issues) so I'm unfamiliar with what structures people are using for their instances. It feels really wild west to me in some ways.

@mattblaze this is really important. I moderate a subreddit and I had a SLAPP brought against me at the community for allowing criticism of a business. Reddit’s legal team fought against the 40+ subpoenas but film freeway let go with names and they’re still being harassed. Mastodon better get their house in order because this kind of thing happens all the time.

@Gargron I don’t envy you. But I think as long as everyone is staying precious about not having a central mechanism (at least a centralized UI) you’re going to see these issues skyrocket exponentially. Things simply will not remain stable without some adaptation.
