Loki, our 16 year old Alaskan Malamute that we adopted from the shelter 13 years ago had to be euthanized last week.

Nurul Amin Shah Alam was a Rohingya refugee from Burma.
He had been granted refugee status by the US government.
Blind and speaking no English, in February 2025 he accidentally wandered into a neighbor's yard.
She called the police, who tasered him, beat him up, and arrested him.
After being held in jail for over a year, he was finally released on bail after agreeing to plead guilty to trespassing and possessing a weapon (a curtain rod he used as a walking stick).

I just realized that today is the 80th anniversary of the start of the Nuremberg trials.
Rather apposite they opened the digital archive today.

Not sure how it is possible to make such an egregious error.

I'm no mammalogist, but even I can tell the one on the left is NOT a Brown-throated 3-toed sloth (Bradypus variegatus).

It clearly is a Pale-throated 3-toed sloth (Bradypus tridactylus).

Sure, newer American cars like the Tesla have lots of fancy electronic doodads and comfortable seats.

But the stuff Detroit produced in the 1940s were way tougher.

My dad once woke up at 3AM with an idea so important he woke my mom so she could write it down for him (he being blind).
She grabbed paper and pencil as he made the stunning proclamation:

IT'S RADIO-FARB!

He then turned over and went back to sleep.

Alas, the details of this potentially earth-shattering discovery remain elusive to this day.

Amidst the current American hellscape, want to share one bit of good news.

I can see well again.
Just had cataract surgery.

An amazing difference.

I can read books without a magnifying glass.
Read the computer without having to always enlarge the screen.
Drive even at night.
Walk the dogs at night without headlamp and feeling the road with my cane.

And at night I looked up and saw all these little white specks in the sky.

Stars. I can see stars.

Have you thought of an alternate rule set where the winner is not the person with the most users and influencers, but instead success is measured by more interaction, less toxicity, and few influencers, with a stable modest number of users. With bonus points if resistant to attack by being a federation of sorts of small groups.

I think there is a real life example but the name eludes me at the moment.
