     My best guess at this point is it's some sort of red team - blue team exercise.

     But the hysteria is incredibly heightened. Between keeping state and local law enforcement in the dark and the non-answers from agencies who should know, I'm concerned someone will try to shoot one of these things down.

     @CStamp @joy I'll put it on either cartels or the Chinese. The cartels have the money, not sure on the technology. The Chinese have the technology, but no idea why they'd do a darn thing in NJ. (red/blue team as someone mentioned is definitely another possibility).

     Russia beat China/Iran to the punch. There is no US being run by US after Jan. US will be pandering to Russia et al. ;)

     Somehow I would suspect that if there is an Iranian "mothership" off the US coast, US military is aware.

     Has anyone looked for recent drone footage of migrating whales or Greenpeace posting on US coastguard behaviour?

     @CStamp @VirginiaHolloway @joy Yeah, the problem is, shooting at things in the air is the best way to get bystanders killed... it's a no-no because you can't see where the bullets will land. (might hit some kid in the backyard, go through a window, hit a plane, etc.)

     I don't mean to sound flippant, but what if someone did shoot one of these down? Wouldn't that be the best way to solve this? They're not humans so "killing" them shouldn't be a problem. So long as its done over an area with limited chance of them landing on someone where's the downside. I sense there would be zero sympathy for whoever is doing this if their little toy is broken. Let the cops shoot one or two down. They have the firepower.
