As an American concerned about our new fascist government and lack of privacy laws the fact that Mastodon, and others I use like Mullvad , reside in nations with more effective privacy laws is a very strong appeal to me.

Large US corporations CEO pay(red) compared to taxes paid(gray). Musk motivation pretty clear...and other CEOs want the same
