You know what's cool about the fediverse?
Unlike most social media platforms, it exists largely outside of the USA.
The 3 largest fediverse platforms were created by 2 germans and 1 canadian.
Not just that, but you have people like @aral building https://small-tech.org/ and dozens of other builders across the world.
The fediverse knows no borders, and in dire times like these, will become increasingly important.
I wish I could say the same for Bluesky.

As an American concerned about our new fascist government and lack of privacy laws the fact that Mastodon, and others I use like Mullvad , reside in nations with more effective privacy laws is a very strong appeal to me.

@dansup @aral That's untrue as hell. The volume of mainstream social media is so big that they have a larger share of users outside of the US (an not only "Germany and Canada"). There are barely people from other countries that is not North America and Europe here.
