All the countless hours spent on the :linux: #Linux Desktop Migration Tool are finally paying off! My wife got a new laptop yesterday. I installed :fedora: #Fedora #Silverblue on it, created a user account, connected it to the home network, and left the migration tool running overnight. She could start using the new laptop without any interruption in the morning, and the whole thing took like 15 minutes of my time.

#Czechia experienced a major #blackout today, and the fake news scene was full of references to the #GreenDeal and ecocommunism. Eventually, two competing (and contradicting) theories emerged:

1) the grid went down because too much power from German wind farms was going to it.
2) the grid went down because it wasn't windy in Germany and too much of our energy was going there.

In the end, it turned out that the blackout was caused by a downed wire on the main power line. But who cares about the truth these days? 🤷♂️

Many consider #Bluesky a success, but in fact its activity has steadily declined since Trump's inauguration. The #Fediverse has had similar trends. Rapid growth caused by an external event is always followed by a slow decline back to a small base of loyal users. In a world full of dopamine addiction, it's hard to be a social network without dark patterns.

@viralobscurity @1br0wn @EUCommission strange, are Google Play Services available on the phones? The notifications don't normally even go through apps, they go through Google push notification service regardless of the app running or not.

I was wondering how a #blackout like the one in #Spain would affect us. The last time the house battery was completely drained was five days ago. The only appliance in the house that is not backed up is the heat pump. Without the heat pump running, the #photovoltaic system would never run out of energy. But we'd have to heat bathing water with a kettle. I'm not sure how backed up O2's infrastructure is, but we'd probably lose the Internet connection as well. Otherwise, we'd probably survive a multi-day outage just fine at this time of the year. In the winter, it'd be a lot harder.

@fabia_man náš barák už nemá ani komín. Všechno je na elektriku. V té jsme z velké části soběstační, ale barák fotovoltaikou v zimě nevytopíme. Uvažoval jsem o záložním generátoru na plyn, ale pořizuj zařízení za desítky tisíc, které možná ani nikdy nepoužiješ.
Jinak všechny nové kotle už potřebují elektřinu, ať už topí čímkoliv. Kamarád sháněl před několika lety takový, který to ještě nevyžaduje, a říkal, že sehnal jeden z posledních kusů.

@Cooba13 @fabia_man máti si pořídila kamna i do bytu (jako sekundární topení, hlavní má plyn). Ta by byla vysmátá, protože elektřinu to nevyžaduje na rozdíl od jejího plynového kotle.

@janbartosik Určitě Mini, poslední SE má naprosto příšernou vydrž na baterii, reálně jednu z nejhorších na trhu (včetně telefonů za pár korun).
