#Apple seems to have further tightened the #iOS strangulation of resources to rarely used apps, so much so that Signal cannot even provide a notification there is a message waiting.
A number of friends -- even a professor of computer science at Cambridge of my acquaintance 🫣 -- have entirely missed important messages from me due to this.
The @EUCommission has ordered Apple to fix this under the #DMA 👏🏻

@viralobscurity @1br0wn @EUCommission strange, are Google Play Services available on the phones? The notifications don't normally even go through apps, they go through Google push notification service regardless of the app running or not.

@sesivany @1br0wn @EUCommission play services are available. I did some digging on the one Honor phone (Honor 70 Lite) I have access to and it seems smart tuneup and automatically manage app launch were somehow re-enabled despite being previously switched off
It's the inability to respect user choices that often cause these problems
Signal on that phone is official web apk not play store if that makes a difference

@1br0wn @EUCommission this also seems to be a problem with (Honor) phones running Android 14
Despite setting the battery optimisation to not manage signal. You get no notifications of messages or calls unless the app is open as the active window
This is what happens to a couple of family members. Both running Android 14 on Honor phones but I don't know if the problem is Android or Honour
My (Huawei) phone runs Android 12 and there are no issues

It sounds like the problem alleged is that when you don’t check Signal for a while you’ll stop seeing notifications. I don’t know how it’s managed, but I’ve noticed that if I ignore some apps for a while I no longer get their nagging notifications. That’s not desirable with a messaging app though.

@1br0wn I checked the Signal app on my IPhone and couldn’t find any problem. Also, the app is available in the app store as usual. May I ask what your source is for the order of EUC? @Tony_Meredith @EUCommission
