Everywhere. Its power play. Criticise, deny, dehumanise.

This is an amazing epiphany, I’d love to see this vision realised. But the hard reality is that in general awareness of even the term #Fediverse across university campuses is abysmally low, let alone realise its potential. They have courses on promoting things on x or Facebook and everything is about LinkedIn, but the moment you mention Mastodon they look askance as if that does not exist.

With all these and more considerations, there is a space to redesign urban spaces and mass rapid transit system including building around people’s need to travel and issues around accessibility.

In particular in cities with reasonable public transit systems and for people who are able to steer simple bikes and trikes anyway

If that happens, let it be. The ‘verse needs to grow, if it isn’t mastodon.social, well let’s say not even Mastodon for that matter but some other app on the ‘verse, the better for it.

Sphagetti squash is also popular in Eastern India, a version of it is called “chalkumro” (“rice pumpkin”/“pumpkin rice” - literal translation) perhaps because of its flaky and string like pulp, that produces “sphagetti” or long “rice like” threads. Interesting, I never tried it here. Will get one next time and try to scoop out the spaghettis. How do you cook it?

Always is! Sorry, I meant, it should not be more difficult than installing an app. But then again, it’s interesting to watch how many people struggle to install apps.

Yes, but even then, mostly from first hand experience of people trying to install. Much of that is about apprehensions of “shall I? shall not I?”

These are great questions. If I were Matt, I’d be very careful in answering them. There has been talks about #tumblr introducing #ActivityPub protocol for some time now, but we have not seen that coming, have we?

I’d say this is a transparent strategy that I like to keep timelines manageable and create a kinder #Fediverse. The focus shifts from “people” and “servers” to “specific content” that get locked out. I can imagine many server admins would buy in that strategy of keeping a commonly monitored set of words and hashtags and would pave the way for an accessible safer fediverse experience. Good thought there.

In theory deplatforming should not work. But real world and ground evidence can bring up surprises that need careful consideration. It is and increasingly will be object of serious academic query over time.

I see. #Defederation as well. I believe there is a need for establishment of a ‘confederation’ of experts in Ethics, communication, and major server admin groups to set agreeable standards about these things.

Good point Also a challenge will be to ‘temper’ the conversation to ensure ‘appropriate’ standards of communication are maintained. In #AoNZ, we have seen that people can die in the hands of terrorists if hate comm goes underground! There is a case to update #ChristchurchCall.

I am with you on this as a user and admin. But the “liberal academic” side of me questions myself that evidence suggests we cannot push hate speech underground but need to confront them. How, I cannot say. Life is complex.

Deplatforming may work, but it also pushes hate speech underground where it has a chance to grow and harm people. There is a risk that needs careful study. I have not seen much evidence. If you know of studies, analyses, evidence, would greatly appreciate if you can share some links.
