Imagine servers could filter out posts coming in from other servers with certain keywords (eg bigoted language), like the filters that people can apply to their own timelines? Lists of filtered words could be shared, labeled with a clear purpose, so that new servers could protect users from those kinds of verbal attacks from day 1. Like the lists of muted/blocked servers, these lists would need to be publicly available, to help guide people's choice of home server.

@strypey Yep. Making it a *function* instead of a settings toggle makes developers free to do absolutely anything with the flow of messages. Side effects, AI, moderation actions, filters, it's all possible.

@alex Are you referring to the Message Rewrite Facility you explain here?

What is Pleroma's MRF, and how does it work?
MRF, or Message Rewrite Facility, is a way for Pleroma to trigger side-effects on ActivityPub messages, unlocking nearly infinite possibilities. When you author an up-to-5000 character post on Pleroma, it goes through Pleroma's ActivityPub "Pipeline." Within this pipeline is a layer called MRF, which lets users decide what can happen

@strypey @arinbasu1 By the similarity between source of social.arinbasu.online and gleasonator.com, I'd guess that they're both @alex's Soapbox. They also both display this at the top of their developer's consoles. Heh. Nice, Alex!

I’d say this is a transparent strategy that I like to keep timelines manageable and create a kinder #Fediverse. The focus shifts from “people” and “servers” to “specific content” that get locked out. I can imagine many server admins would buy in that strategy of keeping a commonly monitored set of words and hashtags and would pave the way for an accessible safer fediverse experience. Good thought there.

      Thanks @arinbasu1 ;)

Bit of a tangent, what software is social.arinbasu.online an instance of? Looks totally different from Mastodon, and I really like the way your hashtag came up as link preview to your server's view of that tag. Looks like you can do quote posts too?
