Not doing this could end badly for you.

Deplatforming may work, but it also pushes hate speech underground where it has a chance to grow and harm people. There is a risk that needs careful study. I have not seen much evidence. If you know of studies, analyses, evidence, would greatly appreciate if you can share some links.
@arinbasu1 @aurynn Fun story, in 2019 I got banned off todon.nl because of a blog post I wrote offsite about transgenderism. I didn’t share it on todon.nl, but someone found it privately and informed the admin about my evil views.
I was so mad. I created spinster.xyz and now there are 20,000 TERFs on the Fediverse.
So does deplatforming work? No.
@arinbasu1 The evidence clearly shows that deplatforming works.
I am with you on this as a user and admin. But the “liberal academic” side of me questions myself that evidence suggests we cannot push hate speech underground but need to confront them. How, I cannot say. Life is complex.
Good point Also a challenge will be to ‘temper’ the conversation to ensure ‘appropriate’ standards of communication are maintained. In #AoNZ, we have seen that people can die in the hands of terrorists if hate comm goes underground! There is a case to update #ChristchurchCall.
@arinbasu1 There is no ability to have a polite conversation with people who seek to do harm, and they do not deserve a seat at the table. Ever.
@arinbasu1 probably, yes. One of the difficulties will be keeping the hateful side of fedi out of that group.
I see. #Defederation as well. I believe there is a need for establishment of a ‘confederation’ of experts in Ethics, communication, and major server admin groups to set agreeable standards about these things.
What do you mean by ‘could end badly’? Can you please elaborate?
@arinbasu1 Lawsuits, criminal liability stuff like that
In theory deplatforming should not work. But real world and ground evidence can bring up surprises that need careful consideration. It is and increasingly will be object of serious academic query over time.
@arinbasu1 Gleason is a known transphobe and hateful person, do not engage with him in my mentions
LOL Look at todon.nl info
" Radical leftist anti-authoritarian server. For anarchists, socialists, (climate) activists, LGBTQIA+, anti-racists, anti-fascists, anti-capitalists, intersectionalists, vegans, human rights, etc."
They are International Commies / International Progressive (modern commies with mental illness)
You cant have
climlate hoax
lgbt
veganism
'rights'
forced onto everyone without the state (authoritarianism)
They dont breed, they brainwash
@arinbasu1
> In theory deplatforming should not work.
Yes, Streisand Effect suggests it has exactly the opposite effect, at least online. There's a multitude of evidence that attempting to censor people or pieces of their content on the net significantly increases attention and support for them, @alex's story is just one example. Some people live in a fantasy world where deplatforming works and anyone who questions it is a covert fascist. They contribute daily to the problems they complain of.
