Barton Springs, 1947. looking east toward downtown Austin.
Traces of Texas isn't a spicy account so he doesn't mention that this picture goes hard because there are no niggers. (I haven't actually studied the pic to verify this but Austin is the whitest big city in Texas and always has been) -

@j @HockeyDoxie @KingOfWhiteAmerica I don't know about the Romans but Orthodox priests can say certain prayers for people who are under spiritual attack. The same thing happened to me when I was a catechumen. Terrifying attacks. I had always had them, since I was around 3, but they got worse as I was entering the Church. Father said some prayers and it did abate, but didn't go completely away. In my dreams I say the Jesus Prayer and the Trisagion and sometimes the Magnificat when attacks happen and that always works. I didn't even know to do that before I became Orthodox. -

@VikingWays @jb @Darbzilla @EscapeVelo @SarahGation Sting and Bono were always in heated competition over who could be the most insufferable while still leading a pretty good band that was consistently listenable. Stewart Copeland is one of my favorite drummers of any era of music, they would have been nothing without him. -

@f0x @vitalis the purpose of a wedding ring is to signal to the world that you're married. a plain gold band does that unambiguously. any kind of stones, the purpose is to show the world "look what my man bought me." it's just wammans competing. also, lab-grown stones are indistinguishable from mined, "real" stones, but they're still expensive, because the whole jewelry trade is controlled by that same monopoly. -

@fknretardlol @GasChamberOperator I haven't heard any word about Turkleton but if he's not even scrolling here then it must be pretty bad. he is such a sweet guy and Orthodox to boot. I know his Ukrainian mom is making sure he gets communion and confesses, at least I hope she does. I pray for him several times a day. don't want to lose the guy but God's Providence is perfect even when we hate it. -

a friend's stepson is dating some chick who looks and acts like a girl but insists that she's nonbinary and everyone must call her they. my friend--who's a shrink, for fuck's sake, keeps saying "it's so confusing!" and right on cue I tell her that trannyism is a mental illness and the girl is just responding to peer pressure and trying to adopt an identity that she thinks is higher status and is having the time of her life manipulating everyone and soaking up attention. my friend always clams up at that point and I know she thinks I'm wrong, and she continues to be baffled and confused by 20 year old girls. -

@w0rm @RoninGrey @Captain80s @KingOfWhiteAmerica @Kalogerosstilitis2RevengeoftheJunta can weigh in on the Greek language part but as I understand it, "catholic (little "l"), catholikos" means universal, throughout the whole world. when the Roman Church broke away they put it in their name like it was some kind of trademark, and now people think it means the Church of Rome. protestants are still flailing at the Roman church and they like to nitpick over single words while studiously missing the point -

@w0rm @RoninGrey @Captain80s @KingOfWhiteAmerica explain the term "Catholic"? or the Ukrainian situation? because I'm not qualified to do either, despite the fact that I'm currently popping off about it -

@Captain80s @RoninGrey @KingOfWhiteAmerica yes and no ... there is only one Church. there are no denominations. the Ukrainian situation is very complex and has been going on for a long time and is partly religious and partly secular all fused together. but the Ukrainian Orthodox Christians who are attending Liturgies in the autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox Church are not separate from the rest of Mother Church. that church's hierarchy is in error, and this is a heartbreaking situation. but above all the Church is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. said cherrypickers won't get any farther than "Catholic" before freaking out. let them. -

@Captain80s @KingOfWhiteAmerica @RoninGrey I regret to inform you that the OCA, which began in the US as the Metropolia, was funded and aided by the KGB and whatever was its precursor as a countering force to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia. ROCOR was made up of refugees who had sided with the Czar and were devout Orthodox fleeing persecution 100 years ago. I don't know a lot of detail but I do know that the Metropolia was a sort of rival Orthodox jurisdiction that was controlled from Moscow.
This all came out in the 60s. So there was at one time some truth to this rumor. Of course the caved-head boomers who obediently hate Russia as their masters have told them to know none of this.
