@Heil_Honkler @sickburnbro I regret to tell you that PLENTY of white ones don't understand the concept of direction either. Most everyone has had that ability rotted out by GPS on their phones. -

@sickburnbro I imagine that an entire industry exists to get them through the CDL process so they can legally drive here, and requiring Ingles is a good start. -

@sickburnbro bigger than you can imagine, foreign truck drivers cause significant misery in so many ways, the main one being the pain they cause to anyone who has to drive on the highway. but that is only the tip of the iceberg of suffering they have brought. -

@p @Ergo I buy it from a company called Texas Tripe and they sell it ground in 2 or 5 lb chubs. Pretty convenient tho we had to buy a dedicated chest freezer for it. They have a delivery model where you meet the truck. I'm out in the Central Texas boonies so I have to drive a ways but the shipping would be $50 so it works out.
Absolutely no grocery stores anywhere in Texas have butchers anymore, it all comes from some central location, but offal has become more popular and I see it in the frozen section now. -

@p @Ergo I feed my dogs ground raw food that has bones and organ meat as well as muscle meat. Kibble is a lot cheaper--alot alot--but I have one dog that just barfs it up, no matter what kind, and I've had other dogs that always had skin and ear issues that could have been grain. I'm certainly not spending a bunch of $ at the vet to verify that, since they're all doing so well on the raw food. But my husband winces at the monthly bill. -

@p @Ergo this is how it works with backyard flocks but if you’re depending on the eggs or meat, or trying to make money selling them, you have to supplement the protein
a fun fact is that chicken feed and dogfood are basically the same product: cheap grain + low-quality rendered protein, cooked and dried at high temps -

@p @Ergo I used to sell pastured meat and I had to explain to people a lot that a plump tender chicken that had only eaten bugs and grass didn’t exist, and if it did it would cost as much as foie gras (around $100/lb) -

@Myshkin @p @Ergo I might raise a clutch of them one day--8 weeks of tending + one day of slaughtering and dressing them and you have $200–$300 worth of chicken in your freezer. -

@p @Ergo you may or may not know this, but the chiggen you get at restaurants or at the store comes from Cornish Cross broilers that are 7-8 weeks old. this breed is designed to grow fast and be slaughtered very young. even the small operations that raise them on pasture have to supplement their feed with some kind of protein. no broiler will reach market weight and also be as tender as people expect without supplemental protein, and if they're allowed to run around catching bugs their muscles get tough. the big chiggen farms raise them in giant enclosures where they can't run. -

@p @Ergo I stopped buying dried mealworms for my chiggens because they all come from China. They're not cheap, either. You can farm them yourself but it looked like a little too much trouble for me; you have to keep them in the house because they can't take heat or cold. I am simply not having a worm farm in my personal abode. -

@Humpleupagus @madison @Turkleton @egirlyuumimain @reallyangry I loved my husband pretty much the moment I laid eyes on him as well, but it wasn't the kind of juvenile, short-lived euphoria I had previously thought was love.
