    @ThatWouldBeTelling @sickburnbro the thing that always made me nuts about ppl breezily telling you to "reduce" your food budget is that you need household supplies like laundry detergent and soap and shampoo and trash bags. there is never a line item for these things so they come out of the food budget and they are not cheap

    @ThatWouldBeTelling @sickburnbro it never ever occurs to my husband to buy these things because he is not in charge of household management. trash bags and shampoo etc. just magically replenish themselves so he always spends less when he does the grocery shopping

    @Scarlett I gained weight when I quit smoking and it took like 20 years for it to come off. I didn't think it ever would so I got rid of all kinds of fabulous clothes. Very sad.

Vance can't take communion at Holy Sepulcher because he's Roman Catholic. amerikwans don't take religion seriously, but over there they really, really, really do. I like the optics of his attending Liturgy in Jerusalem. did he venerate the wall or no?
    eta I read it carefully and the article said there were Greek, Armenian, and Roman Catholic priests there. The Armenians are under the jurisdiction of the Oriental Orthodox Church and is not in communion with Jerusalem, Greece, Russia, Antioch, et al. The Greeks present were probably from Constantinople which is ... politically compromised. The Romans are not a significant presence in the Middle East.

    @c real estate out here in the far perimeter has gone down a little and what is on the market is not selling though they keep cutting the price

    we were lucky to get a modestly nice older house for a modest price; we couldn't even rent a 2 bedroom apartment for what we pay monthly. rents are far, far above monthly mortgage payments
