Patience is a virtue in that game. Next time, try looking at a recommended route guide and don't be afraid to mark and wait to go back to a tough boss (seriously, the map markers are great for remembering to go back to places you didn't finish). That Tree Sentinel at the start is best faced at level 25+ if memory serves. If you tried going straight to Stormwind after the first soldier camp, explore around more, especially to the south on the peninsula.

Not necessarily. I may not have huge amounts of output as a musician, but I make ocarina music on my terms while having a reasonable personal life

Where did you actually make it to? Time spent doesn't tell me whether you just got stuck trying to kill the trap that is the Tree Sentinel at the start or you didn't like something else.

Don't know that I'd call TW3 high fantasy, with how many stories are far from cut and dry good vs evil. Maybe a hybrid of high fantasy and sword & sorcery, though.

I tried playing the older ones, but the controls are so clunky by comparison. I'm just going to wait for the remaster of the first game and hope CDPR does a better job of that than Cyberpunk.

Not a Souls-like, but The Witcher 3 is great if you haven't played that yet, and hits that price point you prefer. Definitely an all-time favorite. Great dark fantasy with ugly and beauty in equal measure. The side quest writing is better than the main quest of most games, and I played it through a second time after finding out I got the bad ending the first time. Second time did max difficulty. Probably helped me be mentally prepared for Elden Ring years later 😆

My first souls-like was Remnant. Pretty sure I've seen that one get close to your price point. There are very few games I've bought at launch and/or full price. I got ER on a sale (maybe 20% at the time), but the base game is so good I've had no issue with paying to get the DLCs at launch. I want them to keep making games. Waiting for more info on followup Nightreign DLC before I decide on the extra $15 for the soundtrack and unspecified additional DLC.

Great game, and had a similar feeling when I first played it. Most recent game to give me a similar awestruck experience is Elden Ring's latest expansion. When that game gives you a view, it's worth taking a moment to admire it.

I wish there was a version of that product in the image that's made with an oil that's more fit for human consumption than soybean oil. If you end up making your own version, will be curious what you use. I'm very lucky to have multiple Asian grocers in a short radius of me for ingredients.
