@thomasfuchs The only thing that bothers me slightly with my record player is where I'm going to get a new needle when the time comes.

@thomasfuchs It boggles the mind...is it part of the human psyche to have such a death wish I wonder? Or is it such a strong sense of importance and invincibility that it inevitably leads to death and disability? Are we seeing a new behaviour or was this tendency always there?

@LeftistLawyer Lying undermines the whole stability of a society. It destroys trust, for everyone about everything. This is how great empires crumble, from within, due to lies.

@aral I was using a lovely sickle once on a steep slope and yes, it went straight into the end of my left big toe...silly me wasn't wearing wellies.

@TJ1001 I agree re your thoughts on Brexit...but I wonder if the obsession with the boats is to distract from the fact that LEGAL immigration has soared and Tories don't want too much attention on that? Their announcement of a huge increase in income before being allowed to come to UK and of deporting or not allowing partners/family of a worker to come is indicative of this.

@thomasfuchs I was lucky in that there were members of staff who were knowledgeable...their window display was all telescopes! I was very tempted.

@thomasfuchs Or visit a proper photographic shop...I was astonished at the range of telescopes and the relatively cheap prices when I went in recently to get myself a new camera (UK).

Quietly and unmourned, ignored and already forgotten, there are little things that have dropped out of our lives and yet which for many of us were a central part of our youth spent partying and/or inviting people round to dinner. #Corks in wine bottles. The very last one I removed with my cork fairy is still there, and a very large black bag of corks is still in my shed awaiting a 'project'. I just couldn't ever quite bring myself to throw away real corks...with the Château's name imprinted on them and the type of wine, still with the scent of that wine on them and the colour of it staining the lower end. I have used some to light barbecue fires when camping or my stove when I've run out of firelighters, but mostly they're just sat there quietly in the shed. I wonder what's happened to all the cork oaks and the cork gatherers and makers?

@aral In this age of social media I bet I'm not the only one who tends to scroll past posts that are more than about 10 lines long. It'll take awhile for posters to realise that...
