Programming languages, I've tried a few. PHP, Javascript, Python, Nim, Rust (briefly), and Go. I've variously thought they are too yucky, warty, ugly, complex, or just plain too hard for me. I've never found my fit.

I'm starting to think that #Lua might be what I've been looking for... crazy?

In my quest to free myself of the (American) corporations (man), I keep coming back to NextCloud for syncing/photos/calendars. But it feels like the WordPress of cloudy things, which makes me feel like it would be a mistake... help me out here, people!

When you’ve got Jeremy Clarkson (yes, that Jeremy Clarkson) writing things like this in the Times, you know Maga’s antics have disgusted nearly everyone outside of America.

@LydiaConwell yep, it seems to have been used historically (although that is somewhat confused by coloured mud that is used decoratively), and it’s recommended as a replacement if you don’t have any sunscreen by outdoorsy types.

@aral You mean AI military targeting? That's not what I'm talking about here, I'm an artist talking about art, and is the context most artists are using it in.

When I’m browsing artist's bios, I see #NoAI a lot, but there's still a lot number with #NoNFT. It's been an exhausting couple of years, huh?

On the other hand, NFTs turned out to be a bunch of nothing in the end, and I feel like just ignoring the whole thing would have worked.

I feel like maybe this is true of AI ‘art’. It's boring. It doesn't even need a backlash.

@darnell Ads can be fitted to content, so it's not like they will be completely irrelevant. TV, radio, and until recently podcasting got by without ad tracking. Meta and Google are massively profitable. Non-tracked ads can be considerably less effective and the'd still profit.

@darnell You can do ads without tracking. That's what they would do if tracking were just flat illegal.

@llewelly @MakBerberovic Yeah, but it when it regresses to the mean (trendline, that is) for a couple of years people will be all like, oh, so global warming is over, what was all the fuss about?

@thomasfuchs is the replies thing a deliberate design decision? If so, that’s crazy. I thought it was a bug or at least accidental.

Browsing the #AI tag from here is depressing. Has anyone got any recommendations of people to follow with a more positive take?

Especially people building #OpenSource models and tools?

@apophis @evan It's often used in bad faith, for sure. Strangely, it didn't occur to me that Evan's original toot was a reference to anything in particular. I was talking more generally.

@evan Referencing Nazis is an attempt to find common ground, surely? We can all agree the Nazis were bad, starting there gives at least some frame of moral structure to an argument.

@futurebird @misc I think it’s worth considering that there is the *other side*; your Gabs and a large number of “free speech” instances. They lean right or libertarian.
