@jackwilliambell @anildash blocking does not work for extremely large High-Profile accounts. You can do this all day and still not catch all the assholes.

I can't offer a better solution, but putting this burden on the victim is not a great solution.

But I have seen large accounts that I actually would like to see here, and they were struggling hard. And some of them at some point chose to become the exact thing you describe. Interacting with the community here was exhausting. So they became mere broadcasters. Everyone lost in this, and I would love a better solution to this.

Weird find: If you hit Ctrl+Shift+M on some #GNOME apps, it will give you a mobile preview of that app. Hitting the combo again (or clicking Exit at the top) will bring you back to normal dekstop view.

Works in Calendar, Nautilus, Software, Weather, Settings, GEdit, Flatseal, Bottles and probably quite a few more.

In part, this is certainly done to have yet another way to crawl the web, but this time user-directed and indistinguishable from actual human requests.

We ask that they stop by using the industry standard robots.txt

AI companies ignore those rules.

We start blocking the companies themselves with conventional tools like IP rules.

AI companies start working around those blocks.

We invent ways to specifically make life harder for their crawlers (stuff like Anubis).

AI companies put considerable resources into circumventing that, too.

This industry seriously needs to implode. Fast.

@Merovius even before that, they were a weird trade off with a lot of dopamine for a very small amount of people (mayyyybe the top100?) and a lot of dread for everyone else.

I am looking like a car in that moment, saying "what do you mean, you can't find me?"

They were typing my number directly into WhatsApp. It did not even occur to them that someon could just ... not use WhatsApp.

#Gitlab just closed the issue about supporting #ActivityPub. Kai Armstrong says "our current focus isn't in this area".

This is very sad, I really think this could have been a pretty good match *espacially* for Gitlab. It could have been a puzzle piece in how to do federated open source coordination. You know, the problem with "not wanting to be on github, but kinda finding it convenient everyone has an account already".

Rendering to AV1 in @kdenlive only uses very little CPU at any given time (screenshotted 17% is the absolute maximum I've seen. It alternates between 7% and 17%). I wonder how long it will take to encode one hour of video this way. Not sure what the bottleneck is, here.
