   @obrhoff Interpolating from the current society: You could only use your replicator with a monthly subscription service. There'd be different subscription services available, each only offering an incomplete subset of the "recipies" you need.

     @obrhoff it is so revolutionary that even in #StarTrek itself they need it to not be perfect. Repeatedly, food from it gets mocked. It can't do some chemicals. It conveniently can't do weapons or whole starships. Lesser civilisations only get simpler versions that only do water...
