@stevehayes @resuna @gerrymcgovern The AI wasn't having a tantrum, it was surely just reproducing plausible answers to a repeated question based on its test data. It doesn't know what a tantrum is.

That's the difference, however much humans make mistakes - the AI isn't making mistakes, it doesn't have any concept of a mistake let alone knowledge or thinking.

@stevehayes @resuna @gerrymcgovern I don't think that's quite right - the principle of operation of an LLM is not a mystery, it is just that it is hard to go from a specific output and work back to exactly why it gave that output. I think? I mean LLMs have been an active research area for some time, people made these things. They don't exhibit mysterious emergent intelligent properties afaik, they just seem like they do at a glance.

@aral I see a preview on this post, both in the official app and on mastodon.social website. When I open it directly on your instance there is no preview (yet?)

Edit: on the app, it is a preview but not playable directly in the app. On the website of .social it shows an actual player for the video.

@freemo I'm not sure it really makes much difference. If someone is out to kill you, they can sure be dangerous without being smart. Not to mention he's an enabler of all sorts.

@thomasfuchs From a technical perspective QT makes a ton of sense, the apps I use do a lookup on links to see if they're mastodon and then open them in the app directly if they are. Not ideal! I think I would just like some kind of opt out simply because some people have experienced harassment as a result of the twitter "QT culture" for want of a better term and have said they don't want it here. Not that quoting is bad across the board. Let's see. I'm happy with the opt in search!
