@snacks Doesn't seem like it, but Netzsphaere isn't in the federated instance list. Looks like the same bug I have with MKAB, where posts get to me only when I force fetch them, or someone reacts to them in some way. Probably a Sharkey thing.

@snacks @goo Meanwhile in Pleroma land, drafs just landed in Pleroma-FE and seem to be broken (switching to a different tab from drafts is not working) -

@Suiseiseki @mischievoustomato @munir @waifu @adachi @dj I have better uses of my time than reading ramblings and arguing with people like you. :gnujak: -

@mint I've updated FE back to the newest develop. There is some improvement in loading speed. Initial load in a Brave private windows takes ~5 seconds and a refresh takes about a second or two. About the same with FF. Tor takes around 11 seconds to load and refreshes take about the same (maybe Tor throws away some cache on refresh).
Still not as fast as Themes v2 though.

@PurpCat @mischievoustomato @icedquinn @Alex @RustyCrab @sun The only psyop I accept is made by the Big Cat specifically made to convince me to get a cat. -

@icedquinn @mischievoustomato @Alex @PurpCat @RustyCrab @sun It is to some extent, but the level of control is minimal and the end reaction is negative.
Online ads aren't a thing for me, so the level of exposure is already small. What usually bothers me are ads in public spaces and billboards. You can't really escape those without living somewhere remote. -

@Alex @mischievoustomato @icedquinn @RustyCrab @sun Glad to know that this form of mind control isn't working on me. The chance of me buying a product goes down exponentially the more ads I see about it. -

@sun @mischievoustomato @icedquinn @RustyCrab That's sadly nothing new outside of very mainstream searches and websites. You deviate slightly and you are bombarded with a bunch of fake download buttons, "security" popups and outright malware links. A good example is the Crystal Dew World (crystaldisk... site).
The problem with ads I've encountered is that some people like them for whatever reason. They like that they are relevant to something they are looking to buy or might want and arguing with them, that it's usually a waste of money at best and a security risk at worst isn't worth it. You simply cannot change their mind. One might say they are too far gone. -

@mischievoustomato @icedquinn @RustyCrab @sun I find Bing's search to be slightly more accurate to what I'm searching for when it comes to general IT stuff. The difference isn't big at all, but it's there. I feel like that there's less of the spam sites in the results and it doesn't have that stupid AI popup that Google does.
But Kagi can't even be compared to Google and Bing in terms of quality search results. The difference is that big. -

@sun @icedquinn @RustyCrab Bing might unironically be better nowadays. The results I was getting from it when I was still using SearxNG were noticeably better than the ones I got directly from Google but still not amazing. -

@icedquinn @RustyCrab @sun They were at least sued for something and had to open up to some small extent. Now they act like nothing's wrong. -

@sun @icedquinn @RustyCrab I wish the US government had the same balls as they had in the 90's. The reasons they sued them back then are nothing compared to the stuff they've been doing recently. -

@Suiseiseki @mischievoustomato @munir @waifu @adachi @dj Not reading all that. The last sentence perfectly summarizes it all. You are either extremely dumb or malicious and nothing in between.

@adachi @mischievoustomato @munir @Suiseiseki @waifu @dj We are in a "Death of the Author" situation. It might not matter what RMS thinks or promotes when _some_ of his most devout supporters misinterpret his ideas and preach something RMS didn't intent to/say.
One of such people is in this thread and started the whole discussion about this topic mostly unprompted. I've had multiple discussions with Suiseiseki exactly about promoting free software as much as possible, while also being pragmatic about it when simply no functioning/usable options exist and there's zero chance of changing him. He lives in his own bubble, unable to understand that a world where free software can't replace everything for everyone exists. Barely understanding what BIOS, microcode and system bootstrap are, while saying that updating proprietary microcode makes Libreboot proprietary, because they dared to update already broken software that is _already_ burned into the CPU die. In this case GNUBoot is actually counterproductive to spreading freedom, just like the flawed policy it follows. While Libreboot is better for user's freedom than normal BIOS, he won't acknowledge it because it breaks FSF's own policies. And if you get him into a corner that he can't "escape" with free software, he'll just play the skill issue card and be done with it.
I actually fully agree with RMS here in this case, even though some of his ideas and FSF policies are deeply flawed.
Anyway, to reference the copypasta, the pragmatic type of free software promoter you are referring to is a FOSSoid :D Don't take it seriously though, it was just written as a bait while I was on a long train ride and had nothing to do.

@adachi @PurpCat @RustyCrab @sally @blaaablaaaa @IlDuWuce @VIPPER @jihadjimmy @meso Intel WiFi cards run fine under Linux (even the new ones). The driver is in the mainline kernel. What is always the problem is the firmware for them. Basically every WiFi SoC that supports 5GHz has a firmware blob and the chip is completely nonfunctional without it. -

@snacks @kaia The front is a blind rolls royce and the back is a bad attempt at mimicking porsche and failing miserably.
