People of Mastodon, and the larger Fediverse, we all know we are old. If someone says, people under 40 do XYZ, you don't need to say I'm over 40 and do XYZ. You're here, that means there's a decent chance you're over 40, let's all just assume that's the case.

@lzg the most recent Yoshi games did this really well. I also like games, like Suika Game, that are just that chill to begin with.

@NaClKnight as a weirdo gotta say I'm rooting for you too. It's hard to figure out how much of one's self to let people see, and where.

@evan AI is a very broad term which among other things has been retroactively applied. Among the more popular current usages of AI you've got LLMs. I don't think there enough proven utility in LLMs to nationalize them. But if there was I would be okay with nationalizing it. So overall qualified no.

Regulated more comprehensively would be a strong yes, as I think that's more appropriate given the current state of things.

@evan I can definitely see this point, but it was not the way I was thinking about it when I voted, in any case it's something to consider.

@evan this definition from Meriam Webster is what I was thinking of for counterculture:
"a culture with values and mores that run counter to those of established society"

It doesn't say anything about being outside of society, and I've never thought of it that way. I've always thought of it as a counter example which is still inside society and shows a viable alternative. It's this definition and framing I had in mind.

For reference I went with somewhat counterculture.

@sylphrin @NaClKnight there's a group of people who always talk about how it encapsulates the divide in society and maintains the status quo. The discussion a few years ago on AOC's dress being a really good example.

@sylphrin @NaClKnight then there's how I "complain" about the Met Gala, but seriously y'all have your fun I'll be fine.

Last night was the Met Gala and I've only seen what I would call a reasonable number of posts. When I was on Twitter the site basically became unusable. I wonder whether Mastodon eventually gets to the point where I just avoid it on Met Gala night.

I don't think any governmental agency in the USA could host a public registration server on the Fediverse due to first amendment considerations. Perhaps more accurately they could but everyone would defederate due to moderation concerns.

You'd probably have to have a system where the government provided everyone a single user instance, which sounds like a logistical nightmare.

Not sure the Fediverse is designed for hundreds of millions of individual servers either, although maybe it is.

@emilygorcenski I've lived in place where the dryer vent situation was comparable, we just made sure to clean it regularly (approximately annually).
