@buru5 For future reference, this is definitely where i read your first reply, felt a MIGHTY NEED to reply to it, and then decided to abstain until i finished the thread.
i'm thinking about making a single-user #mastodon instance (via masto.host) but have read some cautionary tales concerning limited post visible/reach due to the technicals of federation (this is the most-cited article: https://mull.net/mastodon).
does anyone w/ experiencing running a single-user instance have any insight? is it really a "bad idea?" esp from the perspective of someone who is less interested in seeing "federated timelines" and more focused on follower interactions?
@buru5 Sure, so lemme hop in and you can tell me if I come off "as immature and kinda insufferable."
I think ratings are fine and good. I think they are useful in a world of increasingly nigh-infinite media choices
I wish people paid more attention to the context of a rating
Someone saying a piece of media is great is much more useful if I know what other things they have or have not liked. I can weight a given rating by my agreement with this and other ratings by a person or organization.
Thanks! Cause "Bakkie" and "Lorry" are both unfamiliar terms to me.
In which case...
even if semi-truck is technically accurate it's also uncommon here in California. I'm more familiar with this being called a 'big rig' or an '18-wheeler" or a "semi"
Its driver is a "trucker" to be sure but that's a job title.
"Truck" with no modifier refers to passenger vehicles with dedicated beds.
The Isuzu in your last post is a "box truck" or "delivery truck"
In local news, I'm Black and I love AAVE. I love the dialect I grew up with. I love the way Black folx in LA say things.
I think "I wish a MF would" is inspired Or that "y'all be easy" can be a farewell or an insult. I like the way we use -ass as an adverb similar to very I like that we've reclaimed 'nigga' as a term of endearment.
There's a dozen different examples I can give, but I like AAVE and I like learning the 'etymology' of our words too,
And on God, if you come up here with "That content doesn't belong on Mastodon,"
There's a deeeecent chance I'mma specifically tag you when I post it. I'mma politely ask for your opinion and if this specific image has changed your thoughts on what does and doesn't 'belong' on Masto.
It's 6k words. It's intended as a way for me to begin what may be part of a much bigger project.
Unfortunately I already don't like this story. I think it's ok, but I can already see things/people/dialogue/etc I need to change.
While I do so, I figure why not leave it up on HDYSC as proof that I wrote fiction without kissing in it. It's safe to say that I #amwriting#amWritingSFF
