I could really use some support again, my laptop died last month and I had to do a (quite costly) repair. And the illnesses I had caused me to have to get more expensive food than I wanted to avoid going outside. Any help or sharing is appreciated, EU people dm me for an IBAN if that's easier for you (no deadnamed required). https://ko-fi.com/lillianviolet #MutualAid#MutualAidRequest#TransMutualAid
Hey #mastdonforharris Americans. I'm starving, can't pay my bills, and need money. I think Harris has enough to feed her self rn. You can throw some my way instead to make a disabled trans woman's life materially better? https://ko-fi.com/lillianviolet
@nullagent What they don't seem to understand is that the adtech industry isn't dangerous solely to the individual. They are so indoctrinated into their individualist mindset that they can't comprehend that data on groups can be just as if not more damaging even without exact personal attribution. It's often very easy to tell if people belong to a group anyway for bad actors, but knowing what that group does and how they act in daily life, that's harder and more valuable to them. They don't solve this issue, they don't solve that advertisers can manipulate minorities or people that are more likely to hate minorities. Advertising is dangerous, manipulative by design, and generally just really harmful. And they're giving them a cloak to hide behind so people think it's fine since their personal "privacy" isn't impacted.
@KarunaX learn to read: "Julian Assange has personally harmed people I care deeply about". I think they definitely know the harm was real and you're just trying to protect someone in a privileged position. Even if (and I doubt it) Assange didn't do this, it's very easy for him to put actions into place to repair the break of trust people clearly have with him and have a show of good faith. Until such a day banning him from events seems very fair.
@siege I'm quite annoyed by living in the Netherlands. I've been busy but considering giving my endo a collated list of sources and reasons I want progesterone. But it won't help at all. The medical field is so much more stratified here than the US, and the (private!) insurers have the last word on access. But I still feel like I should bring it up.
White queer people, totally fine with abstractly threatening (even with death) TERFs and other bigots, are suddenly thinking abstract threats towards racists are unacceptable. I wonder if that says anything about their view on racism, black people, and if they themselves fear that they might be racist? It's quite revealing tbh.
@Homebrewandhacking It makes me feel unsafe too, and I identify as a trans woman to some sometimes, mostly when I feel less likely to be accepted otherwise. If anyone excludes people that are masc (perceived, coded, or presenting) enbies (or limits people who look like that for perceived "masculinity" until they come out) you won't see me joining any of your events either. @ttpphd@zigg
@LALegault My main issue is that threads allows people on their platform that are actively harmful and against the server covenant (which most servers including yours are a part of). Libs of tiktok as a very obvious example is allowed on threads, but would not be under the rules of the covenant. According to the rules of the covenant then they should be defederated, like gab and truth social. I don't see why threads would warrant an exception suddenly, it's arbitrary and damaging to the moderation of this place. @Mary625
@mozilla You do realise that your main product, firefox, is losing users at a breakneck pace. To the degree that it might not be officially supported by most sites soon? Maybe focus a bit more on the core of your browser, which is clearly lacking in major ways (accessibility, usability etc.). Instead of chasing the next tech bro hype, I'm sure this came from an executive, it has that stench. Really wish mozilla was a co-op, I hate you having the only non chromium browser around so I'm dependent on you.
@mekkaokereke What really is the point of pointing that out anyway I've always wondered. Because it really feels like a "shut up and just take it" kind of attitude, as if black people are not allowed to demand better from everyone else. Sometimes harm reduction is not enough, especially in the long term, people have fought long enough, it's far past time for more systemic change.
