I think they definitely know the harm was real and you're just trying to protect someone in a privileged position. Even if (and I doubt it) Assange didn't do this, it's very easy for him to put actions into place to repair the break of trust people clearly have with him and have a show of good faith. Until such a day banning him from events seems very fair.
