@dalias @bkuhn @skyfaller @next from what I understand, today it depends a lot on what is copyrightable (this is not the same everywhere) and whether one work resembles another (which is also not the same everywhere). A generated work would be judged by the applicable rules to determine whether it is a derivative or not and whether licensing would be needed.
Generally when you write code, there can always be inspiration from other code and generative AI is treated similarly now in that sense.

@SuperDicq we had these mice in university. They were horrible as they were sending phantom clicks all the time. At one point we ran xev and just lifting up the device already showed it was sending button presses.
We often had compilation errors because the mouse had been randomly pasting stuff from the clipboard (through middle clicks).
As all these mice had such issues we ended up disabling their buttons when needed to do coding.

I presume some revisions of these mice didn't have that problem

@libreleah @Natanox @janethemotherfucker generally that makes sense, but I don't think your 25 year old userspace in emulation would be depending on an nvidia driver or similar non-free driver? Or I've been missing what's going on in the emulation scene :) :)

@libreleah @Natanox @janethemotherfucker but to your point, it should be possible to take a 25 year old distro and run it with a modern kernel. I remember I've seen instances where people did things like this.

@Natanox @libreleah @janethemotherfucker there are different ABIs involved in that case. Linux as in the kernel Linux has a stable ABI.
GNU however focuses on API/source compatibility and this is reflected in the libraries you mentioned.

GNU and Linux are often combined for a full system, but you have to consider them independently to be able to understand where choices related to ABI stability come from and the consequences of those choices.

@lanodan if you switch your network over to IPv6, then you can even have it dynamic and without DHCP. Also things like DNS will just work in such case. (I was impressed myself the first time I saw everything working just like that :)

What would your advice if I try it again? I'm now running Triskel. I was also thinking that possibly I don't really need disk encryption and avoiding that might make things faster too.

@SuperDicq @fence alright, 15 minutes seems quite ok. At some point I was playing with Guix and somehow it was takes hours as it needed to build all sorts of stuff.

@Natanox at one point I discovered there is a huge amount of videos on glitching in games. Maybe they were just trying to be part of that hype?

Dat zou een overheidsinstelling verbieden om informatieproducten van haar eigen data te maken, terwijl die data met belastinggeld tot stand zijn gekomen. Het zou betekenen dat de overheid een monopolie geeft aan commerciële partijen met belastinggeld. Bovendien zijn de KNMI data openbaar. Waarom mag de KNMI daar niet zelf een app van maken?

@lynchantropen het is opnieuw een voorbeeld van de wetenschap negeren. De duidelijkste situatie is die van intersekse personen die niet zomaar onder man of vrouw te plaatsen zijn op basis van aangeboren uiterlijke kenmerken.

@bert_hubert yes, it's a big privacy and security issue with Microsoft's mail hosting. I have to use https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/unmangle-outlook-safelinks to avoid Microsoft learning about links/URLs that I click on, also many that are used within the corporate intranet and should not really be exposed to the outside. (Doesn't really matter when Exchange isn't on-premise anymore though.)

@ryanc thank you for pointing that out. Indeed not so well phrased, I edited it.

It's impressive you are so strong and are writing about how things feel! I mainly wanted to express that for a CIS person without any doubts about their gender, any misgendering would unlikely trigger negative emotions even in the example you gave. It is easy to underestimate this gap between CIS and trans people and it also took me a while before I realized this importance around making pronouns explicit.

@ryanc I don't expect this to be similar in any way. As a CIS man, if somebody or some system would explicitly treat me as a woman, there would be more a surprise reaction.

A transgender has likely endured misgendering for a relatively long period, to a traumatic extend and in all sorts of contexts.
Misgendering will always seem much more emotional than for the average CIS person. I don't think I could ever imagine what a trans person feels in that regard.

@JeroenBaten @civodul yep, indeed I know it from there too, but they still license it from the firm of which they split off. And I understand it's also used at one more firm that was spun off from the same parent. So I suspect it would be at just those three companies.
