Then came hooking into the internet/usenet with hacked university accounts and slip. All went downhill after that.

Maybe the clients have solved it in the past decades or not. But the real time stream of it was the issue. I found it only useful if you were a turbo addict on it 100% of the time. Otherwise context was ghosts in the wind and trying dig up history was unpleasant.

BBS era was kind of amazing. Surprise RAPE phone bills aside. Door games and animated ansi login screens were peak.
