imagine then getting freaked out when the government, which holds all that data in thousands of isolated silos just decides to...be efficient. talk to other parts of government. coalesce and aggregate its data.
imagine your entire defense for doing nothing about this is that you just assumed the government would never get its shit together and use the data you let it collect
@sun it's so WEIRD because the Republicans were staunchly against this kind of thing for so long. It's literally why the ATC only has access to paper records for gun purchases! The Repubs were terrified about this being a searchable database for the government to have control over
@feld there are at least two parties inside the republican party and maybe as many as five or more. nobody every seriously listened to the ron paul republicans about anything as far as I know.
@sun i'm finding the amount i care about the outside world is fastly approaching nil.
i saw a funny party game today and was like that would be fun with friends. oh. :ablobcatohlookaround:
even had a conversation about why a drawing tablet is wasting budget on 16 and 8 megapixel cameras, and then remembering its because ultimately google forces everyone to be compliant with design rules for google's phone sales, and if you don't put phone-shit on a drawing tablet you don't get certified for the app store so people can't buy the proprietary paint software to use the tablet with, ultimately, some bean counter blindly slapping attenuators (ashby, beer) on to shit and making everything else nonsense.
i dunno. everything is fucked. i'm sure people will continue coping and kicking cans down the road in any way they can continue to find ways to do so.
@icedquinn@blob.cat@sun@shitposter.world It's some pretty monkey's paw shit. That's a pretty low hanging fruit to attack on gov inefficiency. But the machine has to keep the unrest going by making it sound as dire as possible.
