Unfortunately this means we gotta bring back the website, and I don't know about yours, but mine has been languishing from neglect.

@maija @sun @lain They can water down SICP for zoomers, but they can't take away my purple wizard book.

@m0xee @monsterislandcolonizer You joke but the DVD size limitation was the only thing standing between this shit and us back in the 00s. There wasn't anything wrong with the 4.7GB file limit either.

Been degraded to fast ethernet all week. I noticed (it says 100MBit/s) but I kinda haven't noticed.

@sun If you find one, let me know. My bandaid solution from a couple years ago is starting to fall apart (as Walmart things tend to do) even though I don't know I can drop Herman Miller money on a chair, I probably need to.

@hj @coolboymew @mangeurdenuage saying "it's the only barrier to basically total chrome domination" is really talking about a soggy sheet of cardboard

@mangeurdenuage @hj @coolboymew The only possible bright side is that iOS is singlehandedly keeping browser frameworks a triopoly instead of a might-as-well-be-a-monopoly duopoly.

@mangeurdenuage @ThatWouldBeTelling @Zergling_man @lanodan @romin @sun At this point, I feel like the only way I'd be able to get away with it is a "snake a bunch of optical cables across your house and stick the actual computer hardware in the basement" solution like Linus did with his house. Except I'm not an exceptionally wealthy Youtuber with my own mansion.

@ThatWouldBeTelling @mangeurdenuage @Zergling_man @lanodan @sun Free Software was built by a bunch of guys sharing software and building on top of it. The correct answer for Free Hardware is sharing schematics, drawings, and BOMs, and assembling the computer/printer/whatever together your own bad self.
The problem is that Electrical Engineers with a love of freedom are a lot scarcer to come by than programmers. Even if the FTC ruling doesn't get overturned and there's no more non-competes ever again (rest in piss), you're still asking a professional engineer that gets at least six digits to work in their spare time for free.

@romin @ThatWouldBeTelling @Zergling_man @lanodan @mangeurdenuage @sun There's a lot of good developments in the RISC-V space....... and that's about it, and it only exists because some corporation somewhere allowed it to. Maddening.

@romin @ThatWouldBeTelling @Zergling_man @lanodan @mangeurdenuage @sun It is what it is. I was excited for ARM until the market got cornered by Apple, Samsung, and Qualcomm.

I'm already roasting to death in the summer with a 65W CPU.

@mangeurdenuage @sun @Zergling_man @lanodan I keep telling people "we need a Free Hardware Foundation" and everyone keeps not taking me seriously yet retracing my logic from first principles back to the same conclusion.

@mangeurdenuage I'm one of those replies.
Probably gonna end up being the best thread all year, that was a good one.
