Yeah, but we need them in our anti-authoritarian coalition to stop the downward spiral, so time for us to suck it up and do what is necessary to welcome them.
Last I checked we lost the 2024 election. We're going to need more voters voting with us to not lose again.
There's more than one way to make that happen, but I sure would prefer to have multiple option to get there.
Is sustaining your anger worth reducing our chances of winning future elections, not to mention having fewer people helping us hold the fascist regime at bay long enough to have sufficiently free and fair elections to have any hope of winning.
It would seem to directly contradict your statement as the call is for **global expansion**.
“If NATO was born to guarantee peace and mutual defence, then it must either become an organisation that undertakes this role at a global level – engaging with the Global South, from Brazil to India (...) or else we will fail to achieve the goal we all share: building a security framework in which everyone can participate under rules that apply equally to all.”
Your statement that NATO is fracturing is still bullshit.
The European members of NATO are pulling together to bolster an alliance threatened by the perfidy of The Criminal in the White House. That's the opposite of fracturing.
That there are security dynamics beyond Europe needing attention is nothing Europe hasn't already known.
What is new is that they can't depend on the US to handle it for them any longer because MAGA is a death cult.
So long as US weapons manufacturers are open for business, Europe doesn't need to replace US industrial capabilities any time soon, it just needs to be able to buy what it needs.
For the short and medium term, that's mostly what Ukraine needs, and that increasingly looks like it will be paid for with frozen Russian assets.
And for all of Trump's bluster about walking away from NATO, he doesn't really seem interested in actually doing so.
"“When you’re aiming at utopia, it offers the promise of transcendence of all limits and the ability to ignore everything else,” Becker argues. “If you know what the end goal is, if you know what the future holds, then you don’t have to worry about laws. You don’t have to worry about morality.” And you certainly don’t have to worry about building a library. It’s survival of the fittest on a disastrous, interplanetary scale."
I just returned from the St. Paul, Minnesota No Kings rally. Really unbelievable to see something like 80,000 people show up after being warned by the governor not to attend. It was somber, it was resolute, it was defiant, and it was cathartic. I have sent pictures to Simon so that you all can see for yourselves in the coming days.
I would like to give a special set of thanks to ...
the Attorney General of Minnesota, Keith Ellison. After the assassination of Speaker Hortman and her husband, he was flat out told not to come today. Not only did he show up, but he was at the front of our march to the capitol and then he spoke eloquently and with passion to the entire crowd. It was a badass move and it reinforced that we are all in this together.
I come away from this day so sad at the loss of Speaker Hortman and her husband. But I am also coming away ...
from today more resolute than ever. Our community showed up and supported each other in the face of evil and unspeakable sadness. We are not alone, and we are so much stronger than the evil that wants to keep us scared and feeling helpless.
Keep showing up. Keep doing the work. Keep supporting one another. It was so great to see our state turn out today. We will not bend the knee.
There's no privatizing Amtrak. There's only stealing the DC to Boston corridor. Everything else would wither and die. A terrible outcome for all concerned.
This is the worst possible path for any putative Democratic leader to tread. It's the same doomed logic behind Congresscritters who supported & voted for the horrendous Laken Riley Act.
You can NEVER do regressive-right "better" than the actual regressive-right. Why the f*ck would you want to try?
The winning path forward is the Freedom Over Fascism toolkit path. The 1st step in the toolkit framework? State your values, and stick to them. If you don't, you're toast.
"People born between 1994 and 2013 who take all vaccines recommended by the CDC will suffer 322 million fewer illnesses, 21 million fewer hospitalizations and 732,000 fewer premature deaths. This saves $295 billion in direct medical costs and $1.38 trillion in other costs to society. The CDC report was issued before the COVID-19 pandemic, which would have made the case for vaccinations even stronger."
@Devilstower was my absolute go to journalist to stay up to date and understand what was going on with Putin's criminal invasion of Ukraine, day after day, month after month for well over a year.
"But don’t despair. We are in the middle of an attempted autogolpe. It hasn’t succeeded so far. In fact, I’d say tentatively that the autogolpistas are having a harder time than they expected. America’s oligarchs may mostly have preemptively surrendered to the new regime, but many of the rest of us have not."
We sure as shit are going to fight these criminals. All of us across the great diversity of America.
