    You wrote:

"humans and western civilization are a bigger climate disaster"

What I meant in my reply was: Don't you want tor replace "humans and western" by "capitalism"?

I have recently come around to the insight that there is nothing wrong with homo sapiens per se, but rather with a specific program running on their brains (the capitalist program).

    "doesn't get us anywhere. It's just a feel-good technique."

This is a discourse killer and I advise against deploying it. I'd like to point out that I didn't accuse you of dishonesty (nobody here did) and ask that you give us the same respect.

No, I prefer to think the other 3% just uninstalled the Falcon "sensor" and/or changed their "security" software. Crowdstrike doesn't see them, so doesn't know they're up again (seriously what do we think how CS knows these 97%?).

"contempt of court on the table" -- And not "wrongful imprisonment"? The courts are getting soft, at least if it's one of them.

"should literally be behind bars" -- I fully concur.

You know this is a different situation? Archivists and librarians (and scientist) are typically concerned about references to stuff they don't have archived and or reference which don't uniquely identify a class of identical copies of the referenced item. Therefor the need to reference book (author, title, year) as well as edition and printing.

Links to web pages on the other side suffer from link rot because they don't solve the archivist's problem. ...

This all is a problem because the written artifacts of our civilization make up the body of knowledge that spans generations. We're now discovering (have been for some time) that having a medium (the web and its services) which is prone to rot (links and availability) endangers knowledge accumulated by the generations currently alive.

... And links the need a third party service to resolve at reading time just rot faster (since the rot rate of a shortener (e.g.) is not 0).

This was a hypothetical situation, a projection of a possible future, if you want.

    My point was:

    - The problem are ULRs _instead_ of quotes.
    - The problem are references to sources that don't have been formally published (so we know what we refer to, when we reference them).
    - URL shorteners only compound the problem by stirring risks from a third party into the mix.

And they will be good for as long as you care maintain this self-hosted infrastructure. Or perhaps the end will come earlier, because yourls is end-of-life-ing and a security relevant bugfix is not coming.

The *ONLY* way to increase the probability that your reference to another site survives, is actually that you don't use URL shorteners. And quote the relevant pieces of the references source, since even original URLs on average die pretty fast.

That's the way it works today. We tell our kids not to talk to strangers (and even less to strange strangers), so the strange women have to leave the objects of power lying around conveniently so they can be found by the eligible children.

It doesn't affect the legitimacy and efficacy of the hand-over (see the manual on transfer of worldly power by giving away significant artifacts).

Should they ship with no screen reader instead?

Because they're in the business of packaging, not necessarily fixing, not fundamentally.

So the real a-holes are probably the authors of the screen-reader, aren't they?

And I wonder why they are not fixing their stuff... Any insights on this?

Ah, I see now (www.redecker.de/en/home-and-yard/dusters-and-dust-brushes/laptop-brush-460003) the black part is for massaging the dirt into the nooks and grannies of the keyboard.

Probably to provide a solid fossil record of our eat-at-work habits for future generations.

An unfortunately this is currently the only choice the US has.

"You have to eat less meat, shop/spend less, and drive less."

People are typically not aware, how much less, as it currently stands. Not a bit less. A lot less. And unfortunately our economy is not prepared for this: We expect people driving to their work place, we cannot buy things locally you could buy locally 50 years ago. And so on. This doesn't even add up to a frugal life. It adds up to not being able to survive. Because the sozio-economic environment doesn't support it.
