"'most Starbucks employees use it as a marketing tool' the assistant manager answered. 'Most people aren't going to post a photo to social media of a cup with their name spelled right.'"
@rasmusfleischer Att blanda in reallöneökning tyckte jag nog gjorde argumentet tydligt. Om löneökningen är 2% och inflationen 1% får man mer saker för pengarna.
@arstechnica "The same _unencrypted_ wifi". Or on a LAN using hub technologies from the 90s. The number of possible attackers is extremely limited, while the article (and the authors) tries to give the impression "anyone" can do it.
No. It's basically just your ISP and three-letter agencies.
@hailey Well, it actually isn't "for free" if the fix would include code to be copyrightable. That would then place a future burden on the open source project.
Also: Investigating whether the fix is copyrightable or not takes time (= cost)
Thus, the only possible solution an open source project has is to ask contributors to sign a CLA.
Yes! This is precisely what I think is happening. The power needed to _train_ a model is mistaken for having anything to do with using said model. Those are two completely different things.
Once a model has been trained it can be used infitinitely many times to generate images - and the generation of one image on my regular NVidia A2000 needs just a few seconds of GPU usage.
You're absolutely correct. We must stop telling people to "join Mastodon" and instead always tell them to "join xxxxxxxx" which is an instance we ourselves know and trust.
(I'm a Swede working in cybersec. I thus tell people with the same interests to join an infosec instance I help moderate or a Swedish server I trust the admin of)
Alright - let's ping @michael into the discussion. If it's easy to figure out what call should go where then it sounds like something that's hopefully quick to fix :)
Something seems off with the wordpress.com ActivityPub integration. When I (and others) check my blog profile (@blog.troed.se) on Mastodon, while it displays, there's also a brief error 500 popping up. That seems to then mean that it's not possible to read/comment on the blog.
The FediFetcher script also reports errors when trying to fetch posts from the wordpress.com profiles:

A child of the 80s home computer scene. I do cyber security & software dev - I've done everything from PCB creation to global management.I use two accounts. This one is mostly for random topics, both in Swedish and English. A more tech/retro/cybersec focused account can be found over at @troed
