That's $50 per user. There's simply no way of doing that without going down the route of enshittification - and most certainly not without staying centralized.

To your point: Algorithm driven engagement is a hella powerful drug. It will take a lot of time to get off it.

That's the explanation both for why people register and then leave Mastodon, and why you got more engagement on Reddit with your post.

Jag misstänker att det var Linus Larssons grej och han fick inte igång sin närvaro på Mastodon så som han ville.

En enorm fördel, iaf för de journalister som uttryckligen använder sina konton yrkesmässigt, är att man får verifieringen av att ha sin användare på tidningens domän. Den glömmer man nog lätt eftersom det inte är så på andra sociala medier (men anses vara en självklarhet för email).
