Does anyone know of a good FOSS application for logging attendance at a location? i.e. People can log when they arrive at a place and when they leave?

Secondborn has started a band. She’s on guitar.

    This pleases me greatly.

Let's try something. I'm an English technology lawyer in private practice. I can help with tech contracts, software licensing (including FOSS), SaaS and the like, and data protection.

Unlike most lawyers I'm actually technically literate, in that I spent a number of years as a sysadmin before becoming a lawyer, and I've kept up my knowledge since.

I'm practical, quick, and my rates are reasonable. Maybe I could be useful to your business?

    Boosts appreciated!

@fesshole I'm going to call "bullshit" on this. How on earth would a cabbie find that out?

@sodslawyer But how would they know that the mother subsequently died?

@onepict Me too. I was a pretty solitary kid, but I felt like he understood what it was like to be a bit sideways to the world. His stories got me through so many things.

@onepict People looked down on Dickens too. I think Pratchett will be remembered as Dickens' equal, in time.

Denis Villeneuve really missed a trick with Dune Part Two. Imagine having Christopher Walken in Dune and not having him say “If you walk without rhythm, you won’t attract the worm”.

@tychotithonus I don't want to trivialise what is a fairly serious accessibility issue and a lack of regard for it bordering on ableism, but modern scrollbars (on all platforms) are just so bad. For the love of God can we please just have proper scrollbars back? It would solve so many problems.

@goatsarah @grayface_ghost Right. I’ve always felt a bit sorry for the QL. Then I bought one in an estate sale because I fancied having a play. Absolutely and without a shadow of a doubt the most useless machine I’ve ever owned, and I owned an Atari Jaguar.

Although I once heard that Linus Torvalds learned to program on one, so there’s that I guess?

@stefanie first things first, I’d say go follow @nikki . They run the topspicy.social instance which is full of retro nerds, especially those who lean queer or queer-adjacent. I’ll think of more later on when I’m at a computer. Kind of hard from a phone.

@thomasfuchs I'm fairly certain the first commercially sold optical mouse was the Microsoft IntelliMouse. The Apple Pro mouse was somewhat later. I actually had a Pro mouse which came with one of my Macs. It was ... ungreat. I quickly replaced it with a Microsoft mouse. These days I tend to do much the same as you, and go for non-silly gaming mice. A Logitech G903 in my case.

@thomasfuchs Has Apple ever made a good mouse? I say this with a great deal of love for the Macintosh, but seriously ... Apple mice are just hot garbage.

@thomasfuchs of course, when they actually do need to change something they find that, even if they have the source code, everyone who understands it is either retired, dead, or gone into consulting at 10k per day…

Rarely entirely serious. Fond of otters and dogs. A bit obsessive about music. Partial to videogames and mucking about with old computers. Keen but inept archer. A tech lawyer by trade but mostly tooting about other things. Could probably do with a drink. Tries to be a good ally. Probably a bit over-privileged. He/him.
