Denis Villeneuve really missed a trick with Dune Part Two. Imagine having Christopher Walken in Dune and not having him say “If you walk without rhythm, you won’t attract the worm”.

@tychotithonus I don't want to trivialise what is a fairly serious accessibility issue and a lack of regard for it bordering on ableism, but modern scrollbars (on all platforms) are just so bad. For the love of God can we please just have proper scrollbars back? It would solve so many problems.

@roadriverrail Good Lord. I’ve listened to and loved the Sisters for years and never knew that. Thank you!

@goatsarah @grayface_ghost Right. I’ve always felt a bit sorry for the QL. Then I bought one in an estate sale because I fancied having a play. Absolutely and without a shadow of a doubt the most useless machine I’ve ever owned, and I owned an Atari Jaguar.
Although I once heard that Linus Torvalds learned to program on one, so there’s that I guess?

@stefanie first things first, I’d say go follow @nikki . They run the topspicy.social instance which is full of retro nerds, especially those who lean queer or queer-adjacent. I’ll think of more later on when I’m at a computer. Kind of hard from a phone.

@stefanie would you like some follow recommendations for people into retro computing on Masto?

@thomasfuchs I'm fairly certain the first commercially sold optical mouse was the Microsoft IntelliMouse. The Apple Pro mouse was somewhat later. I actually had a Pro mouse which came with one of my Macs. It was ... ungreat. I quickly replaced it with a Microsoft mouse. These days I tend to do much the same as you, and go for non-silly gaming mice. A Logitech G903 in my case.

@thomasfuchs Has Apple ever made a good mouse? I say this with a great deal of love for the Macintosh, but seriously ... Apple mice are just hot garbage.

@thomasfuchs of course, when they actually do need to change something they find that, even if they have the source code, everyone who understands it is either retired, dead, or gone into consulting at 10k per day…

@thomasfuchs Wow. Bethesda haven't solved the Scunthorpe Problem in 2023?
