    @michaelgemar @cjust @hannu_ikonen What did he say about human nature? Many people do have a really negative outlook in this regard, that's why I'm asking.

      @Natanox @michaelgemar @cjust @hannu_ikonen Pratchett was a compassionate angry man, who knew Human Nature as petty. The most loved characters were Granny Weatherwax and Captain Vimes.

      Both kind, but not nice. Forever striving against the worst of themselves. Through those characters some of us learned to serve the community despite what the world is like.

      Society is cruel. People are petty, occasionally there are cinnamon rolls of people who still have flaws and learn to do better.

      @Natanox @michaelgemar @cjust @hannu_ikonen No problem, Pratchett started as a Journalist. In the 90s some folks compared him to Charles Dickens.

      But lots of folks looked down in his writing as it was comic fantasy.

      But he was way better than Authors like Craig Shaw Gardiner (another Fantasy author who I like).

      @onepict @michaelgemar @cjust @hannu_ikonen I see, thanks. :)
      I don't agree with that assessment though. Sounds like an interesting take to write novels with though.

      @onepict People looked down on Dickens too. I think Pratchett will be remembered as Dickens' equal, in time.

      @hedders I think so.

      Pratchett's books were friends to me when I was a kid.

      @onepict Me too. I was a pretty solitary kid, but I felt like he understood what it was like to be a bit sideways to the world. His stories got me through so many things.

      @onepict Random tangent, Roddy McDowall's reading of Craig Shaw Gardiner's novelisation of the 1989 Batman film is well worth listening to.

      @Natanox sorry I'm just popping in, have you considered audio books ? I sometimes miss on some paragraphs but it works well for me :)

      (sorry for the unsollicited advice, i'm on the adhd spectrum but mine hasn't kept me from reading yet - however I do enjoy doing various tasks while listening to audio books and podcasts :) helps me focus.)

      @Weanerdog Unfortunately not. I would've always loved to read more, however my ADHD and inner agitation keep stopping me from doing so. 😶 They are on my list of things to read once I've found a solution though!

      Wish you an amazing day as well. 🙂

      @Natanox

      Natasha have you not read Terry Pratchett?

      The diskworld novels are superb. The first couple can be a little trying but once you meet the watch and the witches. They are superb. Monstrous regiment is a stand alone and superb. Some of the 41 books are okay. But the ones that are great are fantastic. Pyramids is another stand alone. But you could read the Watch series by itself or the witches by themselves.

      Anyway. Sorry just went full fanboi there.

      I hope you have a fantastic day.

      @leroimiracle Cool if it works for you. 🙂 Unfortunately I couldn't concentrate at all as I can either listen and build the imaginary world the book describes (or the logical connections if it ain't a novel) or work an whatever I want. 😅 Only music works for me that way.

      Listening to audio books generally sounds like an idea, however I despise big companies and their streaming services. Can't afford to buy everything physically either though so I'm just avoiding the whole concept. 😐

      @Natanox @michaelgemar @cjust @hannu_ikonen I love how Command Vimes always fights racism in these books. And races on the disc world are not like us humans with just different skin colors.

      There is so much positivity in it.

      @Natanox @michaelgemar the gist of the Discworld series is that humanity is ridiculous, creative, sometimes loving, and sometimes violent.
