Ah, that makes sense. I guess that I was mistakenly under the impression that a lot of schooling was in English, as it is in many post-colonial countries but now I remember Malaysian ESL books that I picked up/used when I was in #ViệtNam.

@liztai Thanks! I'm not really sick but I'm also not particularly well. I'm glad that I didn't drive back and forth to Costco in this haze. My Instacart person was really happy to get an extra cash tip on arrival. There's slightly less selection when getting things delivered but certainly enough to fill the gap.

Ugh, starting out a new week with limited energy/ambition. I chose to use Instacart instead of battling the freshly cold weather for Costco run. Feeling very dizzy for no known reason. Trying to find the mojo to clean up the pile of potting soil that I dumped on my living room carpet, knowing full well that my cheap vacuum has very limited suction power. At least I found the gumption to rearrange one bedroom Kallax shelf so that it's no longer blocking my heat source. I'll be needing that heat.

@s1m0n4 so I thought he made a deal with Do Hee’s dad who would have had a heart attack and crashed the car. But Ju was there. He went to see her that day I’m curious about more of the backstory.

Well, dishes have been washed and the Big Bird has gone in the oven! I guess this week won't be entirely unproductive!

Having taught in Asia, "soft skills" are what employers and employees are desperately crying for! Because everything was taught by rote and as factual and unchanging, adapting to the constant changes in the workplace can be challenging, especially with a global work team.

I MISS #okonomiyaki
I first tried them here in #YEG, Edmonton, Alberta, then #HCMC, #ViệtNam and I ate them every chance I could when I visited #Japan in 2018 and 2019. Nowhere makes them in YEG any more. I've tried making my own but they kind of fail.

There have still been indoor beer festivals but they're not a good enough reason for me to share all of that unmasked indoor air with a horde. The zoo is hosting a sampling fest in a couple of weeks. I've left that tab open in my browser.

@taiyo When I visited Okinawa and Taiwan, I became aware of the Ryukyuan people and I visited the castle in Naha (before it burned). It's a terrible thing the way that teachers have punished students for using their own languages. I teach ESL and I often encourage students to use their first languages to clarify ideas with each other before discussing the same idea in English. I think that enriches their learning.
