     @taiyo #Indigenous is the best label for most Indigenous people from whichever region of the world unless you are only referring to members of a specific tribe.

     @taiyo Thanks. It was when I first visited Taiwan, that I realized there were #Indigenous peoples in all of the continents, not only the Americas and Australia/NZ.

     @EllenInEdmonton Calling name of Indigenous people of Taiwan gave a issue for which is the suzerain term of colonial.
     indigenous are translated to 先住民 (Sen-Ju-Min) in Japanese like as anglophone calling indigenous instead “Eskimo”.
     But the tribes of indigenous of Taiwan hate it because 先住民 means extinct tribes in taiwanese Chinese.
     They are calling themselves as 原住民(Gen-Ju-Min) which has a discriminatory nuance in Japanese.
     We add footnote that the 原住民is respecting them on our books.

     @EllenInEdmonton Yes, all indigenous people face the problems. I am indigenous tribes of southern Japanese islands, but I didn’t got the ancestors language.

     @taiyo Thanks for the explanation. My knowledge of kanji is pretty non-existent but all languages have a wide range of nuances. #IndigenousPeoples have faced challenges to maintain their languages, identity, and their existence around the world.

     @EllenInEdmonton Amami. The tribe which Okinawa occupied. it was before their kingdom was punished by Japanese.
     The people of Okinawa think that we’re the part of Okinawa, but not. Neighbors, but not same.

     @EllenInEdmonton At elementary school, I and my friends were often punished with talking languages of our tribes by teachers.
     Some teachers hooked a exposing board of our necks displaying apologies for speaking tribes words.

     @EllenInEdmonton Ryukyu is the notable culture. They were great fisher, one of the best trader, skilled singer and more.

     @taiyo When I visited Okinawa and Taiwan, I became aware of the Ryukyuan people and I visited the castle in Naha (before it burned). It's a terrible thing the way that teachers have punished students for using their own languages. I teach ESL and I often encourage students to use their first languages to clarify ideas with each other before discussing the same idea in English. I think that enriches their learning.

     @taiyo #Native (not plural) also works, and is preferred by many who don’t wish to be have colonizer labels like “American” or “Indian”. I tend to use “Indigenous” for everyone around the world and “Native” for those from Turtle Island (North America).
