     @SevenChins @C_J_S @graf @cbrooklyn112 Yeah, raccoons are definitely one of those "we should domesticate these guys" animals. And I know some animals tolerate rabies better than we do, I forget the specifics.
     
     As far as rabies goes in humans from what I remember, if you get in early with a suspect bite (bat in a house is acting weird, so pretty suspect), then it's not a huge deal to get the shots. It's the waiting that really fucks things up. Ideally you want the first HRIG shot before the day is out.

     @graf @BowsacNoodle my dog wasn't even being agressive she doesn't attack animals i call my dog "animal friend" cuz she gets along with all animals that let her, she was just curious, hell i let my dog around my chickens she never event ried to bite one, i had my rabbits running loose in my house and she just cuddled with them.
     
     either way, i've smelled skunk around here a few times, i'm glad i never ran into the creature tho.

They only last a certain amount of time before you need to re up, which is why they make you get X number of shots every Y weeks. Immunoglobulin shots are legit; it is raw antibodies that are like short term kill on site grenades for whatever it's targeting. It's what your body makes a bunch of when you're sick, and they slowly are broken down over time. They're starting to use it more for stuff like RSV in newborns (I recommend this) because it's the same type of stuff as what's in colostrum and breast milk for immune system boost. Vaccines as a whole are a loaded topic, but some stuff like antibody shots are seriously hard to argue against.

     On the other hand, both rabies and tetanus shots have additionally been used as treatments. That is the kind of thing that makes one go, "Hmmm."
     
     It is retarded to claim viruses don't exist. But it is also bad medical research practice to lay down and just accept a bad treatment (and lie about how bad it is...prophylactic mastecomy, chemo, mRNA, etc). Oh, they might do some research, but they usually go, "Uh...duh...wut? We already _have_ a Standard of Care. We don need no root cause analysis."

     @totalslothdeath @reallyangry @graf Oh for sure. The whole "trust the science :trademark:" thing really killed the trust they'd established. Likely exposure to tetanus will usually get you a shot of TIG + vaccine. The TIG is tetanus immunoglobulin (IgG same as above) that are immediately active as anti tetanus "grenades" for a few months. The vaccine is the modified tetanus toxin + the usual suspects (adjuvants, preservatives). Most people don't get exposure to tetanus since agriculture and outdoor construction are the biggest sources, but they still push you to get it when exposed.

The old traditional method is the dead viruses and that causes issues some % of the time, but it's low tech and can be made in a garage. I don't know about the other ones, but I thought it was antibodies + protein.

     According to GPT, it's inactivated viral material but does not require adjuvants. I tend to agree that synthetic antibodies are the least bad vaccine there is. I mean, perhaps it shouldn't even be considered a vaccine because it's more of an anti-venom.
